We need to stop romanticizing alcohol

Refreshing point of view for sure. The alcohol thing has been on my mind recently and he makes some good points in the article. It's like society thinks it's perfectly acceptable to have parties every weekend and get drunk to the point of being inebriated, making fools of themselves, all under the guise of "having a good time"? There are social circles I've stayed away from because they think it's perfectly normal to do these things and not only normal but joke about how idiotic someone (or someone's) acted during that weekend party. I despise drunks, once they get to a certain point there's no dealing with them, certainly no meaningful discussion/conversation with them. It's woohoo I'm an idiot, you be one too, or nothing. Is it me, am I a "prude", or is acting like an idiot and blaming it on being drunk really normal? I have the odd beer, every once in a blue moon I'll go over the top on drinking (regretting it later), but other than maybe passing out I don't. buy into the drunk idiot routine, then blaming it on the alcohol. if I'm an idiot, I'm an idiot, alcohol, straight, or stoned, don't need anyone or any substance to blame it on and hide behind.

not to mention how "normal" parents make it out to "unwind" with a glass of wine after a hard workday.i think cigarettes are nasty but if theyre labeled a gateway drug,so shouldnt alcohol.
btw,i didnt read the article but i agree with the dangers of the relaxed attitude towards alcohol.

you were a fortunate one. many have awakened in much stranger places with strangers even.
with a divorce, a tattoo, a venereal disease, a car accident, a jail cell, mace, dead child or wife.
shit so fucking sad it really is unbelievable its allowed to continue the way it has. I dont claim a solution, I dont want to anyone
to remove my crown or jack or Heineken or merlot from my home but gosh dammit..most days of the year when i bother to look at my liqueur cabinet I sneer and move on. A few times a year I pour a couple shots and really enjoy them in my chair. Those sneers are a hundred snapshots of my drunk self in the past, good times or bad, together none were realistically that good in retrospect, at least the ones I recall

like a tree falling in the woods and nobody there to hear it..... if nobody knew I drank too much....then I succeeded in only hurting myself.
Much more responsible to drink alone I'd say. no drive, no wife, no kids, no friends, no phone, no device, no party=no regrets(cept ill health)

for anyone with a drinking problem, there comes a certain point they have to ask themselves,"what positives has drinking brought me?" i dont know many hardcore drinkers that could answer many positives truthfully.

good article.

The only regrets I have were actions or words during times when I was under the influence of alcohol.
The worse thing I've done under the influence of cannabis was to go to sleep at a reasonable time

I've been known to steal my wife's ice cream ....and even bust open my boys school snacks late at night on occasion......sponge bob fruit snacks etc etc ......oh,and get pain free sleep so I can go to work and support my family each day.....instead of taking opiate medications or being unemployed looking for hand outs .......what a terrible thing canabis is ..........I'd rather deal with a stoner than a drunk any day of the week.
