What are the odds? (6/7 are male)

So out of the first 7 seedlings I started, 6 have turned out to be males. What are the odds? By my calculations, a bit over 1.5 percent. Don’t get me wrong — I wanted some males to choose from, for breeding purposes. But I was hoping to have some females to choose from as well! Luckily, I’ve got some younger seedlings that have yet to preflower, so hopefully I can have more females before culling down to the 4 plants I’ll keep. (That’s the limit, and all I really need anyway.)

Anyway, is it possible the male I used last year was just sending out way more Y pollen, the way some human men have one son after another?

You 100% sure they were male, and not true herm, which will show male parts and female parts? Lot of people will wait to see. Especially if they're hoping for a vigorous male..

None of the preflowers on them have pistils, so I am pretty sure they’re males. My only hope is that these preflowers are really tiny and my eyes aren’t what they used to be, so maybe a couple more will elongate and send out pistils.

No, they will likely be male at one node, female at another. Sometimes one shows up later than the other. One minute you think you have a female and BOOM, pollen sacks. The opposite is also true. A true herm usually shows pollen sacks first as male chromosomes generally express themselves sooner.

How common is this?

So this phenomenon of males who produce more sperm with X or Y chromosomes has been shown to occur in humans:

Is there a reason why it wouldn’t occur in cannabis?

I had 10 out of 10 that's sexed male a few years back. Seeds were from Nirvana but I don't remember the strain maybe ak48. That was a huge waste of time and money. The whole 10 pack of seeds was males. So I believe you when you say 6 of 7.
that sucks and I'd be so discouraged from them. But then, how could they have known smh

How did you make out with the 7th??

That blows. Luckily these 7 were all from crosses I made last year (Cinex x Oregon Pinot Noir, which I’m calling Cinenoir, and Harle tsu x Oregon Pinot Noir, which I’m calling Pinoquin). So basically the seed was free and I’ve got other seedlings that haven’t preflowered yet. If I have similar odds with the rest of the seedlings, I will consider that a confirmation of my theory of certain males producing only sons.

The 7th is a comely female and growing great. She’s of the Pinoquin cultivar I mentioned earlier and will be crossed back with one of her brothers. But I am really hoping for a spectacular female of the Cinenoir cultivar as well. Then I will cull them down to the 4 plants I am legally allowed to keep: 3 females of different varieties and one very special Pinoquin male. Should be more than enough seed for further experimentation. Next year I plan to cross with a hemp CBD cultivar. My goal is a high CBD, relatively low THC plant that grows well and looks pretty, so my wife tolerates the hobby.

Some are obviously females wgen you use the words really tiny and eyes not what they use to be. Your right to wait even post pics.

I have trouble getting my camera take a recognizable photo. I tried but it seems to focus on the leaves in front or behind, rather than the little preflower. The photos I got wouldn’t be much help.

Sort of need to see it to believe it, very rare full grows are male, see a lot less than 1.5%

I hope you’re right but they haven’t produced pistils and look like round little balls. I’ll try to take photos later but don’t know why having 6 males out of 7 plants would be something to brag about, LOL. If I were inclined to make it up, I could just post 6 different photos of the same male preflower. So, I’m not sure how much good photo documentation will do if you’re inclined to believe I’d lie about something so retarded, LOL. I also own a crappy car and live in a double wide trailer, but I’m not gonna post pics to prove it! And I own a flea-ridden three-legged dog that shits all over the place, but you’re just gonna have to take my word on that one, too.
