what do you guys think i should, if anything

I was running yesterday in my rural hood in jackson and noticed a smell. Love that smell, you know that smell. So I look around and right away see where the smell is coming from. This guy/girl has their grow in the side yard in full view from the road. It's enclosed...but not legally as I can see tops sticking above the fence with no enclosed top. They used panel fencing to surround it, obscured the view with plastic and posted a big warning sign, you know the one from the grow store with the laws on it and blah blah. Now, I don't know this person at all but I felt compelled to stop and knock and show my card and tell them while I don't give a shit police may and I bet they think they are 100% compliant. No top tho, I'm 99% sure from the road. So....I'm looking for thoughts from the riu crew here: do I mind my own, go up and knock and try to make a friend, drop an anonymous note in the mailbox...or any other suggestions you got. I fucking hate to see people try so hard to jump the hoops and miss one then get fucked, you know. But I also hate being told to get off my land via shotgun muzzle, dig? Thanks all for your thoughts and suggestions.

Me personally I wouldn't say anything, since you saw them others might have as well so if they get ripped by thieves then there is a slight chance you might be a suspect in their eyes, im guessing you don't know them at all so I would just let it be. If they aren't fully legal then its their own fault.

I'd have to agree with Lionden. We are a pretty paranoid/eccentric group and you can never be sure what you may encounter. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions :eyesmoke:

Let it go. How do you know that they're carded? Back in the early eighties I was pretty bold to the point that many people told me I was asking to be busted. I felt that being bold 'gave me protection.' I even had the state police show up for something unrelated (house fire across the street that they thought was arson) and look out at the garden, looking right past it, I was very lucky indeed. Let sleeping dogs sleep.

I would leave a note with some suggestions on how to cover the top to be compliant. I would hate to drive by one day and see them getting busted or hear it on the news and know I could have helped them with a few words. This is just me, I understand where everyone else is coming from.

no good deed is left unpunished.
they already decide not to have a roof and they know it smells.
stupid people deserve help too, but tend to be less accepting of assistance. It'd be my civic duty to sit-back and watch their world unfold this fall. hopefully for their sake they don't get the plants ripped or visited by J-towns finest. Not my business.

Thanks. It comes to how much regret would I feel if they did get busted, huh? food for thought, maybe another run to think about it...

They have to know you would think. I would do a note or nothing. You could also suggest for them
to tie the plants down at the very least.

IMO opinion not your business to get involved in! I would be sketched to the max if you stopped at my door and showed me your card and wanted to talk about that.

Cops did a sweep where I'm at in mich and actually left alone the gardens that had high fencing and no legal top outdoors. It's their deal to worry about.

I had a similar event happen recently as well in the village I live by . I wanted as well to warn the growers too but then thought about it more in depth and came to the conclusion that it could be a illegal grow for all I know and its best not to be associated with it in any way . With my luck I would get thrown into the mess if it did become raided lol .. Call me paranoid but I would rather stay safe and play old school .

It's amazing how much you can learn about a neighborhood on foot. Way way back in the day, before protecting and serving turned to politics and profits, police would walk the neighborhoods too.
As a general rule these days, it's usually best to mind your own. This is your neighborhood and mj is your passion. They could be great people. They could be an elderly couple, one having cancer and
they are trying to just survive. You feel the burden of stumbling onto this. At minimum, I'd get a note to them asap. Leave them the web address to this thread maybe. If it's close enough to your home, I'd
stop with joint rolled and meet the neighbors. Maybe print up a few of the recent raids in the area and tell them. Making them aware that thieving cops and thieving tweakers are saddling up for fall harvest and you'd hate to see anyone fall victim to that type of bullshit. We had some dude selling meat out of a chest freezer strapped to the back of his truck stop by. Halfway through his solicitation he was like, my God does it reek of
weed out here. We ended up partying for awhile, he was pretty cool and the freezers were full when that lucky fucker left.

If someone you try to help ever pulls a gun on you, always try to beat them with it.
Best of luck to you and the fellow growers.

I would have to agree with most here. I am one that would think it is better to help someone BUT many bad things could come from it FOR YOU. People that are in this program need to know what the laws are. I have seen many who have not even read the law. It is truly sad but we cannot do it for them they have to learn on their own. Not saying fuck them but if you are going to grow you have to learn the law. We cannot risk ourselves to do it for them.

Well, I've read alot of great posts on here and gave it some thought. I think I'm going to cherry pick a few ideas from a few members on this board. I don't know if I could stomach seeing an old couple being hauled off from that house in my local paper and on that off-chance I think I have to drop a note. I have kids, and a huge value for my life and liberty so the direct approach is out, just in case its not a nice old couple but a gun toting crazy that lives there. I think I will type a note, add my screen name and this web address try not be preachy in it like I know more than someone else and just suggest they tie down the tops and put a screen on it. maybe include the highlighted section of the act about outdoor grows and hope that they are not freaked out. I plan to do this wed morning and hope the place is empty-I don't want to be seen fucking with the mailbox, again-in case nice people do not live there. Now that I am "out" in the community and less afraid than 10 years ago I want to reach out but I don't want to get burned either so I'm splitting the difference. If I see a top pop on the thing in a few days maybe I'll drop another note with more info about me and see if they want to connect, if it disappears completely I'll know to just keep on jogging I guess. wish me well and thanks for all the input; without a sounding board like this paranoia would just rule my world and I'd never have anyone to share the plant, cultivation and use of said plant with at all really.
