Hi guys just wondering what size hooks you use for hanging lights from the ceiling?
My light is 12kg I think that's about 25lb planning g on hanging it from 2 hooks screwed into the ceiling joists.
I have some here that have 6mm threads and I'm thinking they might be too big to screw into the 2x4 joists.

Are you going through drywall or another surface before the studs? I 6mm is large. Pre drill and is good if of proper length.

May buy some with a smaller thread if I have too I've seen some with 4.8mm threads.
The thread length of the ones I have is 50mm, and yes it will be going through drywall which is 10mm for memory.
Yeah will definitely have to pre drill so I don't split the joist. Thinking about a 3mm pilot should do the trick

I normally span aircraft cable from one wall to the other, the hardware is cheap and easy to install. We do have brick walls, not sure how it would play with the lego houses you guys live in.

Built for vertical loading. A harbor freight ratchet strap could pull most walls in of modern construction.

Sorry, I haven't figured out which drives all my pics ended up on, but here is an example of how much weight just two cables can carry....
those lights each include a driver, 3 large CPU coolers and a steel plate folded frame (heavy as fuck).

Lol yeah our Lego houses only have brick on the outside with timber frames for the walls not 100 sure how much they would like that tension.

Oh I get you 50mm is about 2 inch and 6mm is about 1/4 inch.
I still applaud Americans for being able to use that system lol metric is so much easier.
Until you have to replace your lifetimes tool collection with the Queens. It is much more intelligent I agree.

So friction/expansion type or epoxy set threaded anchors? Maybe Threaded through wall via anchor plates outside?

You would just have to add to the collection but that's still going to be expensive.
Most of our tool sets over here come with both metric and imperial as so many things still have imperial bolts on them especially cars.

Find a socket that fits over your hook for easier install after drilling pilot hole. Ad the old box end wrench if not. Keep it tight. Proper size pilot holes are easy to google. .
