What the hell is causing this?

Hi all. First post here.

I'm seeing weird leaf damage that's slowly spreading from plant to plant and I haven't been able to find any information as to what might be causing it. It started on an AK-47 plant and has spread to a couple of other plants over the last month. New leaves look pinched in the middle and sometimes grow out with blunt, flat tips. At first I thought a caterpillar might have got to them, but couldn't find any. Nothing seemed unusual under a loupe and when I took out my little pocket microscope I found what appeared at first to be a cat hair, but then I noticed it seemed to be attached to a strand of web at one end and moving slightly. It's either black or dark brown/red and quite long, but completely invisible to the naked eye or under a loupe.

I've managed to keep on top of the occasional mite or thrip. I'm not 100% certain I've been getting nutes exactly right, but other than an occasional minor deficiency that I've had to correct, I haven't had any real nutrient problems. I was growing on my balcony, but the lights from the building next door were causing me to get loose larfy buds, so about six weeks ago I got a 4'x4' AC Infinity tent, a Bestva Pro 4000 led, AC Infinity inline output fan and running a tower type oscillating fan, as well as a 30 pint dehumidifier and a portable air conditioner when needed. Temps are generally around 74°f and rh has been around 45%. Growing in Happy Frog mixed with about 25% Fox Farms coco/perlite blend and a few extra handfuls of perlite. Feeding with FF trio, General Hydroponics Cal Mag +, molasses, and an occasional worm casting top dress.

So, any ideas about this? The attached photos are of my Bruce Banner... the most recent victim of whatever is going on. Any help IDing the cause would be very much appreciated, and a solution to the problem would be even better. Thanks!

I've seen leaves like that before on clones in early veg, but they always grew out of it. Within a few weeks, the new veg growth looked normal. Not sure what caused it. I treat veg plants with neem, bt, and spinosad.

I'm stumped. I have never seen that condition in 30 years of growing. It looks like some kind of bugs or maybe that powdery mildew that people talk about. I would be bummed.
Yeah. Somethings been eating at it when the leaves are just starting. The question is what?

SQUIRREL !;)

Honestly you probably need to catch that pest that is eating your plant
Cause I don't think anyone will be able to identify what is eating eat by dental records
I wish I could find it.

Deffo looks like bug damage. As the leaf grows the scarring looks bigger.
Yep. Whatever is eating it only has a taste for new growth.

I've seen similar on clones but not quite the same. Both the AK-47 and the Bruce Banner are from seed.

Look like grasshopper damage use some BT it kill any bug that eats it:blsmoke:
Not from a grasshopper but I think I'll try that (BT). Insecticidal soap an DE isn't working on this critter. I really think the black worm I found is causing it. I know some worms are protected from DE by their slimy coats.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Wow
what a coincidence you two joined almost at the same time

Only I don't believe in coincidences  :hump:
Oh wow! A conspiracy theorist! They're everywhere these days.

I asked a question in this forum because it seemed to have more serious members and fewer trolls and bullies than the others I've read. And then you came along.

So, can *you* tell me what's eating my plants? No? And perhaps you can explain just *why* I would make two accounts to comment on my own question? No? Okay then... just checking.
