What to do when it rains?

Cover up the plants with garbage bags or let them get watered but risk unbalanced PH and mold?
Let 'em go, they'll be fine.

THC doesn't wash off of plants and unless you live close to a major US city, you shouldn't have to worry about too acidic of rain.

A lot of outdoor growers go and shake off their plants after a good rain, to prevent mold from taking a hold.

Depends on how big they are. Smaller plants cant take too much rain and wind. I've lost plenty due to heavy rains. I usually cover my small plants now.

Completely disagree.

We just experienced the worst set of tornadoes that came through our area in our states history. Where I have baby seedlings and small plants growing, I experienced ZERO damage on either my baby seedlings or small plants. My particular plants experienced 50mph wind gusts for a few days in a row, over a few different weeks.

Not to mention the biblical flooding and downpours that have beset our area, on an almost weekly basis this spring season.

Oh yea, my baby seedlings and small plants also handled this size hail raining down on it last week:

When you really have to worry about rain is during the late stages of flowering, when you have a lot of sensitive buds that could be easily damaged.

That's when it's a good idea to put up a tarp and some poles to support it, or find some other way of moving your plants to keep them dry.

Do you know where they grew cannabis before there was such a thing as a grow room??? outside, yep thats right. I've even heard rumors that cannabis can grow in the wild without help from man, and still thrive at the same time. but i do suggest shaking water off your plants during flowering to reduce chances for mold if your growing a strain that makes hella dense buds or if your growing in a valley or if you having a wet autumn or your plants dont get early morning sun in they're location. actually i suggest always shaking the water off your plants after a rain no matter what the conditions are, if its realistic for you to go out to your garden whenever and do that after every rain then absolutely. but what ever you do dont put garbage bags on your plants, you dont have to do that. anything that makes contact with your buds is gonna rub trichs off, nobody wants that. and plants like to breath too, just like us. you wouldnt wanna be covered in a garbage bag....... or would you? and what do you mean about unbalaced ph from rain??? are you serious???

If you are seriously worried about acid rain, maybe growing outdoors isn't the best move. I guess if you live in an industrial area like Gary, Indiana, Detroit, etc, you should worry about it.

But if you have trepidation about acid rain now, why didn't you think about that before you planted outdoors?

Just cover your plants with plastic bags...some people have to learn the hard way, and it sounds like you've made up your mind.

i don't even believe i'm reading any of this....protecting your outdoor grow....FROM THE RAIN!?
What about the dirt that's been soaking up those rains, since like....FOREVER?
...or the pollutant encrusted air full of nasty stuff that makes acid rain to begin with?

is this the fabled summer ....uh....madness...you all were talking about a few months ago?

Seriously, yo....if it's such a concern, maybe growing INDOORS would be more suited to your needs....
honestly the plant could care less

Different strokes, for different folks I guess. I've had plenty of stems break due to winds and heavy rains myself.

I live and grow in the heart of acid rain country - Detroit. I'm a first time grower. And from listening to experienced growers, everything is on schedule and healthy. Cookie.

Literally fuck everyone in here that said not to protect small plants.

I just started my first grow ever about a week ago. I germinated, then planted my seeds. About two days later, the forecast began calling for lots of thunderstorms, so I began researching what I should do. After reading lots of forums like this that said,

"Oh lookie here, mah seedlings survived hail! U're a dumb shit cause nature haz been doin this shit forevur!"

I came to the conclusion that sure, heavy rain could hurt my little seedlings, but exposing them to mild rain would just be nature's low stress training. I kept a careful eye on the radar, ready to protect them if anything serious came along.

After the week passed (very mild rain off and on), you want to know what happened?

Out of my 8 plants:

3 were doing fine.
1 was buried in the dirt.
2 simply vanished.
2 had the leaves literally pounded off of them (nothing but stems remained beaten to the ground)

To anyone dumb enough to take these retards' advice, if you truly care about you're seedlings, protect them. Natural selection is a bitch and will do anything to ensure that only the strong will survive. Any that aren't near perfect will die without your help.

By the way, I bought from a seedbank, so I might as well have just wiped my ass with $35.
