Will I have issues hanging a Quest 205/225 off my house' garage ceiling? Theyre ~170 lbs

So I have 2 95 pint home dehumidifiers but these past few runs my humidity ends up being Low 70s% late in flower. W6 in flower onwards til chop. Luckily no pm or bud rot all this time. Theyre also taking quite a bit of floor space so Im thinking Ill just buy a 205 or 225 quest.

Theyre ~170lbs.

Ive never hung something so heavy so Im not sure if the house studs can hold it.

Ill be using these brackets https://www.questclimate.com/product/hanging-bracket/

and Im thinking of using 4 of these heavy duty 1/4 ratchet hanger straps https://www.amazon.com/iPower-GLROPEMG4X2-Adjustable-Capacity-Reinforced/dp/B01AUP1VTS/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=ratchet+hanger+straps&qid=1605995479&sr=8-4

You would need to know the length (span) and the size of the rafters / joists above. If they are supporting a floor above then they are likely big enough, if there is nothing but insulation above the garage then the rafters up there probably are bare minimum. In that event you may need to sandwich them or otherwise increase the structural integrity up there to hold the load. Figuring that you will probably have half the weight hanging from one rafter/joist and the other half on another one you may be able to get away with it but you need to go directly through the joists (not off centered when drilling) and it's best to run 3/8" all thread completely through the joist and put a washer and nut on the top to hold it, another washer and nut on it below the drywall to keep it all tight so it won't walk the threads out of the top nut. Strut channel is your friend.

It is wise to install the dehumidifier up high, it will not only save floor space but it will also run more efficiently up there in the warmer air, pulling more water per watt used. You also get a good column of water to push the condensate to a drain.

awesome. thank you for the help Renfro. its just my attic with insulation... no 2nd floor. I think itll hold it.... I might try spreading it across 3 joints instead of 2 with the adjustable ratcher hangers or maybe spreading out the eye hooks further apart on the same 2 joints so its less pressure.

what dehumidifier are you using in ur garden? any suggestions on a 200+ pint portable dehumidifier?

im not sure yet if i want to go with the quest. im waiting til these next run is done to decide on it 100%.

i just added my old veg 70 pint home dehumidifier in there on top of the other 2 just in case. the amt of space these 3 home dehumids are taking is too damn high. 1 portable or hanging one would be much better.

I really wouldn't use the ratchet straps as the permanent fixture, you could use them to hold the load whole you fix the strut channel. But thats just me.

Man when you get to that size the amperage require to do the job and the size of the equipment tends to dictate a less than portable solution. Honestly I would rather have a couple smaller commercial units if going the portable route.

Quest makes a great dehu for sure, I have one of their dual 205's in one room and it's nice.

gotcha thanks. 1 more question. lets say I get a quest 225.

its a 240v plug. 6.9 amps. can i use this to change it to a 120v and plug it into my socket? BloomGrow 220V / 240V to 110V / 120V Plug Adapter for US (2 PCS) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078SJCG8R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_7aHUFbTZYEB9A

the 6.9 amp would turn into 14amp on a 120v assuming it works right?

the socket im plugging it into has its own 20 amp breaker.

i want to avoid calling my electrician honestly

it would need a 240 volt plug, can't change it to 120 without a neutral and thats not provided on a typical 240 volt feed.

Not sure you will need an electrician, if that's a dedicated 20 amp circuit with the right size wire, you could just change to a double pole breaker and remove the white wire from the ground bar and hook it to the other side of the breaker. Make sure to label the outlet and if you ever move I'd switch it back, you don't want someone that doesn't know trying to use that as a 120 outlet.

After re-reading the OP I think he is asking if we can run the dehu at 120 volts and just draw more amps like with a 120/240 ballast. That won't work, the compressor requires 240 volts, it can't take those extra amps in trade for a lower voltage.

i see.

what about if i used a quest 205 with an adapter like this to plug into the 120v plug with the dedicated 20 amp breaker?

The adapter doesn't change the voltage, it only makes the plug fit, so no you can't do that unless you wanna burn out the compressor with the added current it will try to draw.

damnit.
either gotta call an electrician then or just use a quest 155 and still keep one 95 pint home dehumidifier on the floor.

i shouldve planned for this beforehand

thanks for the help anyways
