So, I spot these when I'm running around the backyard. I don't know how long they've been there, or what kind they are. I'm in Oregon, if that helps. I do love a good bbq'd steak with mushrooms in butter. I'm not really daring enough just to start chowing down though.... Lol. I'm gonna look around Google some more. You know, maybe I should just toss one over to the neighbors dog, and see how he does eating them. They are probably growing from a pile he left in our yard....

Btw- yeah, I already know you @Mrs. Weedstein would probably eat them. I can save you some. Lol.

LOL, definitely stay away from the white ones — those could be destroying angels. As for the other ones, you can do a spore print by placing the caps on a white sheet of paper. The color of the spores will help greatly in identification. As for help with identification, try an app like Plantfinder. They really help narrow it down based on uploading photos. Much easier than rummaging through books.

Yea it’s possible to do liver and kidney damage you may not even notice right away. That said, there are some pretty good rules of thumb. Generally, boletes — the kind with the sponge on the bottom of the cap — aren’t poisonous in the Northwest. Chanterelles are easy to spot because they have veins rather than gills, which helps differentiate from jack o’lanterns. I’ve been mushroom hunting since I was a kid with no ill effects despite lacking a mycology degree.

No! If you have to ask then just say no ;D For some types of mushroom poisoning there's nothing you can do (it's fatal) for others it's a liver transplant, it's not worth the risk.

So I tried using your photos in my plantsnap app and it’s not giving good results — seems confused. Guess I’ll hunt around for my trusty mushroom book...

Thanks for the concern everyone, and no; I have no plans on trying them. The neighbors dogs aren't getting them either! Lol. I did download a mushroom app @Mrs. Weedstein . Pretty cool to check out all of the different ones, but seriously most of them look the same to me. Yup, off to Safeway, to buy some from them....

(And I just noticed there's a bunch more in other parts of the yard. Our family has been here forever, and we've never had them grow in the past. Weird....)

Yes lets feed your neighbors dog a possibly poisonous mushroom to see if its safe for you to eat ? Please by all means eat away my dude. Every single one of those you took pictures of are edible. Get at it !

We bought a house last week. One of the {many} things left is a mushroom book. When I see any in the woods, I'll try to make an effort and post here.
