Yep. I use an old fashioned mechanical one for lights and then some 'smart plugs' for fans. If my fans don't do what they should it's a minor issue not a major disaster.
The problem with the smart plugs I have is that if you have an outage they don't default to 'on' when the power comes back on, and sometimes you have cycle them physically to get them back up and running. I do have a ruggedized outdoor timer that I've used for years with my holiday lights that has never been off-track for times or working that has a good track record for success. but I kind of like the old fashioned ones where you bump up the little notches. Super easy to work with and visualize and I don't have to re-learn how to set them if I haven't done it in a while.
