I'm in a bit of a predicament. I have 100 amp service in my house, but I need to upgrade to 200 amp. Most of the work is already done - I have the 200 amp breaker box in place, all circuits are moved over already. The 100 amp box has been feeding the 200 amp box for about a year without issues, until tonight.
Our house is heavily reliant upon electricity: well pump, electric water heater, electric dryer, several air conditioners, a dehumidifier (not in grow room), and the 600 hps and 600 mh (running lower power for veg tent), plus a portable air conditioner sucking another 900 watts in the grow room. Apparently too much was going at once, the main 100 amp breaker tripped. NEVER happened before though. Always just had individual breakers trip occasionally when running a heater and a toaster oven plugged in or something stupid like that... Anyhow, thought the power went out everywhere. Didn't see anything tripped as it was one of those half tripped breakers you see sometimes. The breaker was HOT. So I called the power company.
Finally got those yutzes out here, but just after I figured it was just us and rectified the problem. I talked with them outside while they looked at the incoming wire. They figure my incoming house line near the meter is actually just 60 amps! WTH?
I have my grow stuff in a separate room at the other end of the house from the electric, in a closed, locked, blacked out room. There is some smell coming out the exhaust though, which you can smell when you're near the front door. I attribute this to my crappy DIY carbon filter though. I can either tweak it or buy a real one. If the power company employees try to report me for a smell, I know my rights, and how to act in the presence of authorities, not worried on that front, but also don't want the hassle.
I'm concerned about the plants during the complete power outage. I believe they're supposed to do such electric work on the same day, scheduling everything so it's done one after the other. I have 4 plants that should finish flower soon, week 10 now (since the 12/12 flip). Also 2 large in veg ready to jump to flower mode, and 6 additional clones that are a few weeks old. Everything is in soil.
I don't want to have any plant issues, but also don't want any hassles from smells. I'm guessing I should try and schedule something for after the harvest and cure of the four in flower, but don't know what would happen with those just moving to flower and those left in veg. I have an emergency marine battery/inverter setup I could use for a few hours to power some fans, but it wouldn't do the MH/HPS lights. Maybe I could setup a couple CFLs and run them during the light schedules until the electric change over, or is that not necessary?
