Seed open notuch of a tap root

I have been germinating a couple of seeds in shot glass of water, they opened enough to see the tap root but it wasn't extending out of the seed, I've planted them in their pots, should I have waited a bit longer or will they be ok? They are currently in the grow tent in darkness

I usually wait til I have at least 1/4” length on the tap root. It will come up.. it just may take a day longer than usual.

That's what I'm hoping, I've planted them a little early in the past and they were ok

If you wait to long they drown
It sounds like you did ok
But for future reference I soak them overnight and then plant
No tap root required

Because they've been planted in the pots

Is it common practice to leave the sprouting seeds in the dark until they are above ground? When do you recommend turning the lights on?

Aren't the seeds in the dark until they sprout? What's the point of light until they sprout?
I believe seeds sprout during the night in the forest........or maybe they wait until the sun is up to sprout. Lol.
