What bases?
The US is out of Iraq as a permanent presence.
The actual goal from the beginning was to have permanent bases there and dominate the region. That didn't happen.
There are US military bases all over the region.

More over, you claimed their policy was antithetical to what I was claiming, when clearly it was not - which was my point.

By the way, you currently have at least 1,500 troops stationed in Iraq. A lot more in a large number of the surrounding countries.

What can we do with 1500 troops?
Nothing.

Why are you arguing with me?

I probably know a lot more about this than you do. Do you know what the Wolfowitz doctrine is? It's the policy the US has adopted and continues to use as a basis for foreign policy. Obama is a neo con no different from the assholes who have been in power the past 20+ years.

The Wolfowitz doctrine states that the US should use preemptive military action to suppress potential threats (and as we know these are almost all entirely imagined) and to prevent the rise of another Superpower. This was all released publicly and reported on by the NYT in 92.

It has not changed.

It is in the middle east
A superpower is a state with a dominant position in international relations and is characterised by its unparalleled ability to exert influence or project power on a global scale.
Iran is not a superpower by any measure at all.

There is only one real superpower currently (America, China and Russia almost qualify, united they probably do qualify). The Ottoman empire was a superpower.

That is what western policy wants to avoid seeing form again.

Western foreign policy since WW1 has been to keep the Middle East a complete mess. The Ottoman empire reformed would be a threat. So every single action taken is done to create more mess. And it's really quite apparent in every single historical fact about the region. Any platitude about trying to make the region a better place is clearly complete bullshit.

Unless you want to believe all the people responsible for this policy are just too fucking dumb to understand the impacts. Despite being educated almost completely at the most prestigious schools in the world that generally only accept top students.
Prestigious schools accepting only top students... from rich families. That last little bit explains the rest.

In the middle east there are 2 super powers. Israel and Iran.

India is the only nuclear nation not heavily involved in the Middle East- yet some of their peacekeeping troops are there.

Energy is one of the advantages Russia has over China, by our own standards, they need to position themselves to prevent that from happening again. imo.

Pakistan cannot project military might without collapsing into civil war. THEIR military It's strictly for suppressing their population

I've never been proven wrong on this, but . Everyone who had mispelled borders as boarders Is a racist
