Hi there, Im completely new to Rollitup and Ive been reading as much material on DIY LED cob builds on here and im looking to purchase 3590's or 3070 top bin cxb cobs in Canada to avoid having to pay border fees and heavy shipping charges, as well as high currency exchange rates due to the fact the Canadian dollar isn't doing very well right now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh good luck finding heatsink material too. We're kinda forced to just use cpu coolers. There are some decent deals around for those however, ranging from $10 to $20 per heatsink/fan. If you find some heatsink material let me know, I'm in the same boat as you.

Not yet, I'm new like you and still learning. I've literally watched double digit hours worth of video and read for another 10 or 20 hours just absorbing all that DIY has to offer. I don't have the money to just spend $96 on a Cree CD bin cob, especially when the Vero 29 can do almost the identical job for $36. It takes awhile to understand everything and then go source stuff.
I did find some heatsink material on ebay HERE
It's $18 and you'd have to add a fan to it. I can find decent cpu coolers that come with the fan for $10-$20 though so I think I'll go that way. Something like THIS
Let me know if you find any deals. I'm thinking of going with the Vero 29's since it's by far the most affordable setup we can get in Canada, at least....the most affordable I've seen so far.

someone is stitching you up bud. In the last week we have sent COB kits to Vancouver, Ottawa, Banff, Edmonton, no one has had any issues with customs I am aware of?Cheers

I totally know what you mean, considering were kinda neighbors lol maybe we should design a model together. Where abouts do you live in Canada? Ive definitely been looking into the Vero 29's a lot since you mentioned them. Ive been researching the CXB 3590's a ton and the 3070 but your right, the Vero 29's aren't much different from the 3070's or the 3590's in terms of their ability to grow high quality cannabis. The cost alone is a huge difference. So in reality, you can build more lights to provide more protons if its really needed. Im trying to build 4000 Watts of LED Cob power for a 8x16 foot space. I also really want to build a PASSIVE design with no fans. But im still trying to figure out where to buy heatsinks that will allow me to do this. Any suggestions?
Its not really about having any issues with customs, its about the cost of duty fees and border taxes. On top of all that, everything is sold in USD and the currency exchange rate is brutal right now. Do you know something i don't? Please do share$96 for a Cree CXB3590???

About your heatsink/radiator problem did you try aquarium site...they use leds and cobs too to lights their fish pools...lol...so maybe if there is a big shop/site in Canada you should find there!
If you want to stay passive it will cost you 3 time more (3 time bigger hs)!
The best is semi passive...enough hs to protect your cob from frying but youwill need a fan @5V...so very quiet...much more than an extractor!!!
If you go with cxb3590 don't go with cpu cooler...with cheap 25$ vero yes not on 45$ cxb

Or do you pay like us In EU vat under 45€...that's why I always ask to write on the package 44$...this way I avoid vat!

No semi passive is the way to go if you want to keep your expensive cob a very long time...mine are barely warm without fan...with a 120mm fan @4.5V it is cold!

hey cuz lol! I see your point though. I may have to just go with semi passive as you suggest to save some money. I don't pay tax on anything outside of Canada usually but USA is brutal for some reason. If I was to use 50W per Sqr Foot Id be able to make 6000W of LED's, which Id like to get to eventually. Im even considering dividing the room vertically and building shelves to double up on the lights and only grow 24" plants to get higher yields without all the veg. Ive got 8 foot ceilings so I could probably get away with keeping the lights 1.5-2 feet from the plants and only grow them 2 feet tall.

I totally understand your way of thinking but let me say this. I've been building computers for years and never once have I seen a good quality fan fail. The cob is $36cdn or $24usd so it's not like you even need to be worried. In Canada we can't buy extruded heatsink like Americans can, not that I've seen anyway. Now on another note there is a very solid semi-passive heatsink we can get for fairly cheap and add a fan to it just for extra cooling. It's HERE.
