I would say thats not optimal. You really want a cob per square foot, I think the edges would suffer at that distance and Less than 5 cobs.
There's nothing magic about having exactly one COB per square foot; it's just an easy way to get people thinking about them in terms of an array instead of bunching them all together in the middle of the tent.

As long as coverage is regular and even things will be fine, especially in a tent with reflective walls.

Quick question. if one had 42 inch heat sinks is that enough to cover a 5 foot area in length? Like if you set the lets say 4 cobs on that 42 incher 2 inches off the end and 9.5 center to center?
How many COBs? If you use 16 chips; divide 5' x 12"per ft = 60" / 4 = 15" centers. First one centered at 7.5" from two walls, or about 10.6" measured diagonally from the corner.

How many chips?

A CHALLENGE TO ANY L.E.D GUYS

as of right now, I have a gavita in a 5x5 space that is growing 9 plants at an average of 5 zips per plant

Build me a light that replaces that gavita for $1500 or less
it must out perform my gavita, fit into the same space, be plug and play and all the other stuff you claim it will do.
in return
I will buy the light and if it does as stated, Promote the hell out of YOUR light, you know I can sell some lights, BUT, you also must be prepared to get torn a new asshole if it DOESN"T do as well or better than my Gavita. I will hold no punches.but will also be 100% honest
any takers?
I already offered!

I'm about replace my HPS side of my flowering room within the next 6-8 weeks. I would happily build you an extra fixture for that price.

That performs as requested.

Yeah my golden goat is a 9 weeker, hard to find legit 8-9 week sativas, i'd be willing to even go 10 weeks if the strain was dank enough.
It's dank enough. It's the only strain I know of where my dab all day buddies will take a hit of flower and it gets them spun!

Good for you. With an attitude like his, he won't get to touch my gear with a ten foot pole.

are you a current maker of LED units? I want a current manufacturer that can gain from my use of their light. But is also willing to put it on the line because they are confident in their product.
also, are these lights UL listed?

Ah, a commercial unit.

Nope, I'm just a hobbyist builder of LED lights. No safety cert's here. Just sounded like an open request to outperform a Gavita which I'm 100% sure I can do for that price. Even using less Watts.

I'm curious if there will be any takers from one of the manufacturers...

yeah, I want to promote someone if their light performs like they say. I would be interested in seeing your light when done though.

Steve Johnson's Maximizer is already doing this test with another (open minded) grower and is handily beating it. You might start there.

Not sure if it's on this forum. Go to the Johnson Grow Lights thread and I'm sure Steve will fill you in.
I didn't see this light on the website, the biggest one is an 8 light for like $1700 which is discontinued. or are you talking the 9 lighter for $1100?

let's say I magically got my hands on this light. I could plug it in and not miss a beat, right? it will still give me 5 top quality zips per plant? will run 100 watts less but at a much cooler temperature than my gavita and last longer with less maintenance?
You might need to adjust your training style as the light footprint will be different.
