10 strip 4ft grid.jpg here is the 10 x 70 w on a full 4ft x 4ft grid..the real one will have more support but 2mm is pretty good for that

will test the intensity, heat disperaal and coverage

at 500w and 600w..and iguess it could driven at 700w

In a free market you can do whatever you want and I dont think its as quick and sleazy as snap a photo and youre rich.

I'll tell you what, since you guys are so keen on working for free why dont you design a board, coordinate production with a manufacturer and then share the supplier with the community since greedy @OLD MOTHER SATIVA is being so selfish with his design.

I'd like 2' strips of 660nm xpe HE photoreds spaced 1" apart on alum pcb and 2' strips of 561c s6 spaced 1" apart for half the price of Arrow. PM me when youve got the seller info on alibaba. Thanks in advance.

I understand your point but i see a difference between selling a professional light (lot more safe) and a diy light. Its the same phenomen when Supra shared his found and test on arctic 11 alpine heatsink for cxa3070/3590 and some people decided to sell diy fixture (4x3070 on alpine arctic + hlg 185h) based on his work. So its ok if i grab the pics and the dimensions of OLD MOTHER SATIVA strip, then send to alibuy pcb compagnies and make profit.

I guess I just dont see it that way.

A lot of these folks, greengenes707 included, learned what they know here and saw an opportunity to fill a niche and provide something they thought was lacking to the community.
Maybe I missed the "glory days" of RIU but tbh I get just as excited about someone working hard on a product that I can potentially use in my garden as I do about some "bud shots".
You must have missed a lot then if you think this started when COB's showed up. I ran LED's for 5 years in commercial op. Helped and consulted with 5 of the top commercial companies still in the business today. All before 2012 and had nothing to do with jumping on a train.Simpley improving my facilites at the time and working with a like minded company. I was paying my own gohard earned od money, time, as well as failed ops on early tech and experiments. I did not jump on any train. I was one of the first to build and test CXA's, and openly tested and documented them. As well as had pure white apache grows before that. All before building a light for anyone else or selling them. Just pushing for current companies to take my work and profit from it. No wanted to change and try something new, so I went out on my own with my own concepts, money, and results/R&D.

If you guys want boards go to alibaba like everyone else. Taking initiative instead of complaining might find you what you want.

@OLD MOTHER SATIVA Good on you for seeing what you wanted and getting it.

Yep, this is what keeps the "train" moving.

Im thankful I jumped in when I did and avoided a lot of costly mistakes.

To be frank I dont really care who did what when and where. It's great that youve helped a lot of folks find their way and its a shame that you feel like youve been stolen from. I assure you someone will steal from the folks you feel have stolen from you and so continues the great circle of skullduggery.

In the end I just want affordable, quality things available to me that hopefully were produced by folks making a decent living. I wont hold out hope for the latter in this case, but I'm glad @OLD MOTHER SATIVA went for it nonetheless.

Cheers.

@OLD MOTHER SATIVA Good on you for seeing what you wanted and getting it.

Greengenes gave you the PCB maker, but you'll still need some chips:
https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/smd-5630-led-chip_60513155060.html

There, pretty much all you need to build your own now right?

After spending a little time looking into building a custom board via Alibaba vendors, I'm impressed at the folks at HLG, ChillLED and the PhotonFantom guy that are delivering top-shelf diode boards for $50-100 a unit. Once you get a sense of the time, expertise (Gerber files?) and minimum investment (yeah, if you don't know what MOQ stands for you don't yet know that making one board probably means making 30 boards) involved, $75 for a 300+ top-bin chip Quantom board seems like a steal. Until next year when Cree beats Samsung with a cheaper, better chip that makes their old boards obsolete. Business is tough, tech businesses are among the toughest. I salute their entrepreneurial efforts.

Did you get threatened by another company selling samsung panels?

OMS did not mention who threatened him. ~ 3 years ago I was threatened by an alien manufacturer (hint) after pointing out he no longer would control the led panel market. He is the only person on RIU who had my home address and personal email. He sent his threat via Hushmail to cover his cowardly tracks, and used Potroasts' UN. I contacted RIU and Potroast, but nothing was ever done, s I stopped posting for a couple years. Karma bit him in the ass and he is finally gone

The main reason you don't see 4' LED strips is that the length is a little impractical for convenient shipping. That's why it makes more sense to just use two 22" strips, which when mounted end to end come out to a few inches less than 4', so you actually have room to put them into a 4'x4' tent. Obviously a full 4' strip would have no extra room at all. See you gotta think shit through before jumping in. Now you have a bunch of strips made up that won't fit into anything smaller than 4'x4' and would probably be a tight squeeze even for that. What about all the people with 3'x3' or 2'x2' tents? 22" strips would work with either of them but 4' would not. You may have just invented the square wheel.

10 strip 4ft grid.jpg 4 ft is indeed not as convenient for shipping..but does ship ok
these 4 ft 70w strips have almost twice the wattage of commercial samsung strips and would sell retail for about the same
and are on 2mm sluminum pcb
and yes the 22 " panels fit in small tents
i get gear for myself first and 4 ft is the deal for me..stay tuned please
i want to cover a ft x ft grid..

ihave the option of redesigning the 4 ft strips and panels to be cut in half
though cutting a panel sounds more scary..but a 20mm strip should be easy
..2ft strips can easily be made

no shipping problem here. 4' strips need less wiring.

You were just looking at the wrong Samsung strips. These are the high power ones. It's like one of those 4' ones compressed into a 22" one. Those 4' ones are like 2 low wattage Samsungs end to end. Now if the OP had been on the ball he would have had 44" strips made with TWO strings of LEDs on it instead of one. But live and learn, it's probably his first custom made strips. He's an enterprising guy anyway.

I guess the light is better distributed with single row strips, come to think of it, and it would get less hot.

I thought size does not matter? So now we are arguing about the proper length. I think it does not matter, one row, two rows, it is easy to "see" what is going on here. I am not a member of 4' strips but that does not matter, others are. I just like seeing the process being demystified, and more folks taking the DIY circuit.
