Up until President Obama the job has always been held by a white, straight, Christian male. Which demographic is the least likely to ever be elected President?

Definitely a Muslim.

An atheist can be forgiven by the bible beating right wingers. They'll see it as a challenge to "bring him/her into the fold".

A Muslim to them are all heathens. No way that ever happens.

Probably a gay man. So few not many could possibly qualify. Muslims are possible since Sharia law is Christian law but probably not too soon and a woman almost won.

Atheists in the future maybe Washington was a Freemason not a Christian it's happened before.

I'd like to think no race, gender or religion is off the table completely, but unfortunately there are lots of very biased Americans, made all the more evident by the last election.

Therefore, old white Christian men are the safe bet and the further away from that standard the candidate is, the longer the odds become.

It makes me embarrassed to be an American and have to say that.

And as far as some right wingers are concerned, Obama was Muslim = we've already had one.

I voted Atheist because Bible beaters are unforgiving.

I'm looking for an all of the above button.

How much of an effect do you think this has? 1% or more?

Well, I'd estimate that around 1/3 of the country is firmly conservative, and of that segment I'd say that the majority of them would not vote for a gay man, or a Muslim. That really isn't the issue because I can't see Republicans nominating someone that isn't white, straight, and Christian.

So really the question is how many people that identify as liberal or Democrat would not vote for one of the above? I would imagine the number to be a lot smaller, but still statistically significant. Maybe 5%.

Just a guess

Nikki Haley is female and not white. And often mentioned as a Republican presidential candidate.
