Help on my first diy strip build

G day
I want to get my feet wet with the led dyi and i thought that a small strip build would be a good opportunity.
So i want to make 2 lights, one for a 3x3 ,mother tent and another for a 3x3 clone/veg tent.
per light
I was thinking 3x 2 foot F-Series Gen3 4000k
120watt driver was thinking a-type so i don't need to wire a dimmer

Would just like some advice on what type of driver to buy and to wire in parallel or series?

is this the right strips?

40w per strip? They are rated at a max of 27w at 1800mA. 6x 2ft strips would make a lot more sense with an
HLG-120H-C1050A in series.

Not enough light for a 3x3. You need a HLG 185 at least that'll work for veg or a HLG 240 for flower. I think you would be disappointed running 13 watts a sq ft.of LED's. I'm all about efficiency but it takes me around 23 watts a sq ft. at a min. to maintain good plant growth.
I'd run 7-8 of those strip off a HLG 185H 24B or 9-10 strips off a HLG 240H 24B run in a parallel connection. The driver you listed would be run in series and that's not an optimal way to run strips as the internal circuits (traces) are rated at 50V DC.

Yes those are the single row 560mm(2ft) F Series. Digikey is fine, but.....
You can get free overnight shipping (in USA) from Arrow Electronics, just know your part number, in this case SI-B8T261560WW for the 4000K 560mm F Series.
Also try out Octopart for future needs. The almighty Octopart search engine is super useful, just know your specific part numbers.
When I say overnight shipping, its no joke, Ive had parts on my doorstep in less than 24 hours from Arrow.

You haven't said which f strip you want?
Samsung F 564b double row strips on a 48v driver would be my choice, I just received 5x 4000k to update my veg area.
Hlg 320h 48a would suit a 3 x 3 for flowering. You'd have ~ 370 watts to play with which is nice. Plenty of power with nice dimming capabilities.
3 x 3 = 9sq ft. 370 watts ÷ 9 sq ft = ~ 40 watts per sq ft.
I currently use 5 x double row lm301b l09s on an hlg 240h 48A in a 32 x 32 tent at 200 wall watts on kilowatt meter, max wall watts on my 240h 48A is around 270 watts so you could probably get away with the 240h 48A at 30 watts per sq ft.

Hey mate, we manuf strips in Melbourne with Cree and Nichia V3. I have stock also of the ERP 140 watt 1050ma drivers that would work nicely in that setup
Cheers

Thanks for all the reply's .

I should clarify that these lights i want to make don't need to be very strong.
The mother tent light will only need to keep 1 or 2 plants alive and produce 36 cuttings every 2 months
And the clone/veg tent light will only need to veg the clones for a week or so once they have taken root.
As i have a dedicated 4x12 flower space

Hey mark
Would you be able to give me a price on 2 lights kits with your strips and driver. And with any other components you have availble i could use in the build. (e.g wagos, thermal tape, 18awg)

That's 4000K.

Those strips you've linked to have 80 leds, the gen3 f strips have 144 diodes.
Hope that helps

I veg this way under only 35w from a diy strip build. I'm abt to double up on the strips but keep them on a separate switch so I can ramp up veg time on an as needed basis. I do this bc it makes no sense for me to have mom's growing at anything faster than a snail pace since I have only one flower tent.

Consider Q series or H_inFlux strips which uses more efficent lm301b diodes. And also consider buying from Arrow (free shipping+free DDP option if you are in EU)

I have 3 of them and I went with ELG-200-48A. Good thing about this driver is I can run 3 of them at max and at full dim. And I can add up to extra 3 strips to same driver if I wanted to.

Note that it's 230v input driver. So if you are in US I'm not sure what's the 130v one for you.

Hi Winger
3 of the Nichia V3 strips(560mm of 2ft) has 112 leds per strip, 3 strips plus the ERP driver is approx AUD170, we can supply them with the 14mm thermal tape applied to the back of the boards and Wagos etc

Cheers
