Sent you two books....great stuff. Should be more to your liking, although Liberty and Tyranny should be read, and re-read, until it too, is to your liking. The concepts of freedom and self interest have been so watered down, demeaned in an attempt to subjugate peoples spirit of exceptionalism to liberal dogma, and liberal power mongers, that most people, especially younger people, have no clue what true happiness is. To try your best, in your own best interest, for your own benefit, joy, and contentment. Your own blood, sweat, and tears, for your own personal wealth, whatever your definition of wealth. The power hungry misery peddlers of society, the statists, would call this greed. Typical...................

I just read, actually listened (audio book), to "The Fountainhead". One of the best books I've ever "read". Right up there with Stephen King's, "The Stand". Had to get back to it whenever I could find the time. Read that one first, so we can talk about it on the trip.....;)

Love ya
that's how you and your brother speak to each other? :? :-|

Here we go again! I'm going to speak my mind here.

You're unfairly establishing an ethos as a Rand scholar. You and the other Ayn poster have only PASTED TEXT of Rand's novels without giving a single reason for why it's applicable. Then you state that we're living Atlas Shrugged as we speak! What the hell are you talking about? Explain yourself.

As someone who actually gave Ayn a chance, read her entire corpus, and researched her heavily, I'm calling YOU out. Explain her objectivist views. Explain her view of government and society. Then, explain why any of it is accurate. Do you buy into all of her ideas on human relations? If that's the case, it would point out many inconsistencies with previous statements you've made for months on this board. It would basically make you look like an idiot (here's where you say, "Show me how I'm an idiot," only to later reply by saying that I cannot or will not and thus, am subordinate to you and your godly intellect).

Your logic and reasoning abilities are a bit askew. I don't get it. What's wrong with you? Seriously.
Fear, disguised as contempt? What else could it be, 72582? (Glad to see you already have your # chosen.) Are you scared you might lose tenure if the monstrous world Rand envisions were to be embraced by Americans, again?

I can't say it any simpler: Fuck Ayn Rand and all she stands for. She takes weak minds and molds them into idiots. The great individualist that she is or trys to impart to others does not exist in the modern world, it can't exist. There is no room for selfish moguls like Rand. We live in a "society", get over yourselves. Enjoy what you have and quit trying to take everything away from others to make personal gains. We can exist together but separately. "You" are not the most important factor in the universe. The world does not revolve around you. There are 6 billion others that are sucking up air, just as you are. You should be concerned about birth control and cleaning up the air, not how fucking rich you are going to be.

You know, I can see that viewpoint, but I have to survive too, you know?

I won't be immoral, or unethical, or even perform illegal tasks for money.

But I do have a family, and thats more important to me than Tikwanda Mugabedora in the Congo.

Perhaps you should follow your own advice Med. The way I see it, at least the people my boss gets his money from do so voluntarily. You on the other hand reap what is taken through force.

We can exist together but separately. "You" are not the most important factor in the universe.
Humanity is defined by the individual, the collective "We" can go fuck ourselves, I on the other hand, am going to try making something of myself.

The world does not revolve around you.
My world does.

There are 6 billion others that are sucking up air, just as you are. You should be concerned about birth control and cleaning up the air, not how fucking rich you are going to be.
This coming from some one who has a daughter, who has a child of her own. Hypocrisy.

As far as your desire of cleaning up the air.

Fine words from some one who is doing nothing about it. I haven't heard you announce that you are selling your rental properties to try finding a way to solve the problem.

Though the air is hardly a concern, a more pressing concern should be the fact that the entire South West is rapidly running out of water, as are other regions of the world.

So perhaps when you stop trying to dictate to others what they must do, and get off your ass and do it yourself you will stop contributing to the problem and being hypocritical about it, and actually do something about the problem.

Global Warming, what a crock of BS, a phantom to distract us from the real problems. Imbecilies like yourself in power, and the fact that there are limited fresh water supplies that are rapidly being used.

This pretty much sums you up: The world does not revolve around you. My world does. This explains your lack of maturity. Only a child would post something this selfish. Knowing that others should be considered is a sign of maturity, you seem to lack this.

Do you actually have anything positive to add? Or is this just your usual ad-hominem attack. What does my daughter have to do with my post. I have posted numerous times about the water, wake up, duh. And as for global warming, yeah, it's real. When you nay-sayers pull your heads out, it will be too late. I can't actually believe there are still people that refute global warming. Say, are you a big stockholder of energy stocks, oil, coal, etc.? That's the only logical reasoning I can see, Money.

How many of the poor, hot as hell in the summer, Vegas yuthes have permission to cool themselves in your gated pool? Do your part to fight the unintended consequences of global warming and poverty in one kind gesture. An "OPEN TO THE PUBLIC" neon sign hung above your pool, man.

OK. I'll open it up to crack heads, pimps and drug pushers. Like to see those needles lying on the pool deck so my grandaughters can run one into a toe and get aids. You are one funny guy, NOT. How fucking old are you 8-10-15? I'm sure whatever your chronological age is, you're still a wise ass punk.

It would give you a chance to mingle with the "little people" of society. You know, the "common man".

This is where I'll be spending some leisure time this summer. Owning a house with a pool is such a pain in the ass, especially since my pool guy and gardeners went back to mexico. I don't mind the pool so much but the gardening is a big PITA, I'm looking for a new one right now.

So Med, are you then advocating that my world should revolve around you?

Now that is the height of egotism.

Or maybe you think it should revolve around some one else. That's absurd.

YOU ARE ADVOCATING SLAVERY!

and that is the bottom line.

Not at all my "good" man. I'm advocating that all humans should be aware of what their actions will have on others, do no harm so to speak. You are free to make your living anyway you can as long as it doesn't take from someone else what is theirs. Can you even understand this logic. I mean treat others as you would want to be treated, is that so fucking difficult?

Perhaps you should ask yourself that Med, I can look the homeless person that I give money to in the eyes when I give him money, but can you?

Or do you think that you are so much better than the rest of us that you can't grant any one the human dignity of looking them in the eye when you give them a hand.

Oh, wait, that's the entire socialist view in a nut shell. I should feel bad about being more successful than the homeless man. I should feel shame at being able to give him money that I earned. I shouldn't be able to look him in the eye, I should be so weak that I have to let the government give him money.

:lol::lol::lol:

Totally absurd

I am myself, I can not live for another person, no more so than another person can live for me.

My life can only be what I make of it.

Other people can't make anything out of my life for me, thus it is illogical to assume that it is some how magically possible for my world to revolve around any one else.

That doesn't prohibit charity, and helping others, it does however prohibit enjoying being the equivalent of a slave before a tyrannical government that is only getting more and more tyrannical regardless of which collection of imbeciles is in power.

WOW. We have a egoist on our hands. I cannot live for another person - really? My life revolves around me - really? This is the main fault with Ayn Rand - she honestly thinks that we have a choice to exist as though in isolation. You seem to think we have a choice to act only for the benefit of ourselves. Well, we don't.

Every one of us is born in a womb. Every one of us was created from two people coming together. Every one of us is PART of a history. Every one of us participates in the human condition. There is no choice here. We are born into our condition. As humans, we share so much and are part of the collective histories and ideologies of mankind. Do you understand this concept? I'm not talking about socialism. I'm talking about the transcendental ethic which dictates our lives. Emerson describes an underground root system connecting us all. Past histories collide with present realities. Families sharing and existing for one another. This, Emerson states, is the world we live in - one inherently connected with other people. You have no choice. You are a part of something. Participating is not mandatory. A government cannot force someone to participate in something larger than oneself because it's already a reality.

I was just teaching Rand's work entitled (and yes, this is real), the Virtue of Selfishness. I repeat, the Virtue of Selfishness. I juxtapose her ideas of egoism with Emerson's notions of inherited altruism and guess what, Emerson wins the debate each time. Egoism does not work because it IS NOT reality. It's simply not the position you're born into. When your whole existence is contingent upon another person GIVING you life, how can you turn around and reject that gift by never giving anything else to another person? It's life; it's reality. We are connected with others - act accordingly.

Peace.

BTW - I've read everything by Rand and consider myself a scholar in this regard and let me say, NONE of you text pasters have shown any understanding of her. Read Atlas Shrugged and the Virtue of Selfishness and then get back to me.

Reality is subjective, and your reality is flawed, like a lump of coal being paraded around as a diamond.

If the concept of self is not relevant in this interconnected world, where a womans womb, and her child, are collective property, what is the point, of arguing the point. Rand is as much a part of you, as I am a part of you. Don't fight it, just relish the experience, me, being in you, always.

P.S. If you have a bank account, in whose name does the account appear? Why?

Brutal, it is your reality that is flawed. Selfishness is always wrong. we are social creatures, And what the fuck would you know about me looking anyone in the eye. Sometimesd I think you are a fucking child. That selfish morbitity you so proudly exude, is on par with a 2 year olds mentality, Mine, mine, mine. Here's something for you, go fuck yourself, ~LOL~, that's something you can do all on your own, a real selfish endeavor.

Strange, I'd say that you're the one that exhibits a more childish behavior. Whereas I just want the fruit of my blood and sweat you insist that the government be empowered to take a portion of it, against my will, to give to you (since they squandered the product of your blood and sweat that they took from you) and to others with out my consent.

It's not so much that I have a problem with that. It's more that I have a problem with the entire fact that the government insists on taking my money to save for my retirement, when I am perfectly able to do just that on my own.

I don't need the government looking after me, I am not 2 years old.

Nor do I wish to be insulted by having an entity full of imbeciles trying to patronize or matronize me (to death.)
