You are going to be asked to sign a very important petition at http://www.stopiranwar.com/ in just a bit, but first let me give you some background.
Have you given any thought to how significant it is that Wes Clark recently took the time to seek our opinions and answer our questions concerning whether war with Iran is inevitable?

As I promised at the start of this diary, there is also a petition there for us to sign. Let's show Wes Clark our appreciation for all that he is doing to involve us and prove that the netroots can be a very significant voice when we are united against another unnecessary war.
Please join with the Iraq War veterans at VoteVets.org and sign the petition to President Bush today. http://www.stopiranwar.com/ As Wes says, please, "Urge him to work with our allies and use every diplomatic, political, and economic option at our disposal to deal with Iran. War is not the answer."
Please also consider adding your own voice and/or video against war with Iran at the http://www.stopiranwar.com/ website.
And please circulate this request to all of your friends in the netroots. I'm sure that they are all busy, but for the vast majority of them, there may be nothing more important they do today than signing this petition.
Thank you for standing with all of us against another unnecessary war.

I believe some in the Administration have seen this confrontation as inevitable - or have sought it - since late 2001. At that time a Pentagon general held up to me a Defense memorandum which he described as a five year road map to the conflict. But surely we have learned by now that, particularly in this region, force and the threats of force should be the last, last, last resort.

For those who didnt want to slog through the fan mail (879 comments!), here are edited or paraphrased versions of the questions Clark was asked and answered, with his responses in full.
Youre probably aware that General Clark has been working tirelessly to persuade the administration to stop all the saber rattling and instead pursue all possible peaceful means to resolve the situation. At the same time, he has tried his best to make certain that the Iranian government understands that they too need to step back from the brink.

Speaking to United Press International Friday after addressing a meeting of the Democratic National Committee in Washington, Clark said that the Iranians should take 'very, very seriously the prospect of air strikes and missile strikes as well as other operations directed against Iran`s nuclear capacities and all other elements of their military power.'
Today, Wes Clark has taken another step in this process, and the success of this step greatly depends upon our active response. Wes and VoteVets.org have set up a new website which enables us to record our voices and videos from the grassroots against going to war with Iran. Its at:
