Didn't only land owners used to be able to vote?
I guess they gave future generations more credit than we deserve concerning voter identification, and figured they wouldn't need to specifically outline HOW we verified citizenship.
Back in the day, you couldn't vote if you didn't own land/property, and weren't a free man. They were smart enough to realize that people with less will always vote for people who promise to give them more. I agree with that, and the theory has been proven time and time again.
Things change.
Sometimes for the better, sometimes, not so much.

i don't see the problem either, because there have been no recorded cases of it. so naturally i don't see the need for an unconstitutional law which disenfranchises hundreds of thousands of legitimate voters.
