Further proof that money lies at the crux of the marijuana prohibition and even more proof at how much weed funds the budget on the so-called "War on drugs". Make no mistake about it folks weed is major cash crop for them. And now they seek to make even more money off of it.
Perrhaps to make up for the money law enforcement will no longer be seeing as pot becomes more and more legal. That's a pretty high tax but so is the tax on alcohol and tobacco.

Why not give a few little piggies pink slips, their "services" will no longer be needed.

all they have to do is make it legal all 50 states. grow out doors unlimited number of plants. and flood the market. in a few years most people would go out of business. and the market would go underground again. because no body wants to pay 40 % tax. not going to work. so basically there would only be one major supply of cannabis. set price major farms. its possible. it would put every body out of business. and gov could tax it.

That's where
Licensing
Regulation
and Zoning come into play

here I will piss off all the people who think they will be the JP Morgan of Pot if it ever becomes commercially legal

The fastest way to legalization is

Legal to possess and grow
Illegal to sell

If it's "illegal to sell" , it's not really "legal" it's regulated. What is wrong with fully legal and leave people the fuck alone?

Because the left love regulations and growing government.

California has over 350,000 state government employees who work for all these state controlled agencies.

Total number employed directly by the state- 350,000. Number of independent contractors who service these agencies? Unknown – but pretty close to everybody else. My personal favorite – California Smart Growth Caucus. Runner-up – California Cemetery and Funeral Bureau. Second runner-up – California Museum for History, Women and the Arts. You may have others. And remember – every last one of them gets a generous pension paid for by YOU.

Somebody gets it

No money in it for anyone
No regulations.

And no one can claim you are a drug dealer if you are just growing it for yourself
It's the same reason they leave Home brewers of beer alone.

If two people want to make a trade and another person prevents the first two willing and able people, it seems that the unwanted third party has a "can't mind their own business" problem. Drug dealing isn't inherently good or bad, but not minding your own business is inherently bad.

keeping it illegal to sell wouldn't stop ppl from selling it anymore than it does now. it would really only keep big business out of it as well as preventing gov from taxing it. If the gov can't make money off it, they will ignore it.

mmmm... legal for anyone to grow would pretty much put the cartels out of the weed business. also if it's legal to posses and grow, it would make it pretty hard for police to catch anyone selling. except for ppl dealing on a street corner, or smuggling large amounts.

No money in it except for the prisons and cartels.

No regulations except for laws putting people in jail over a plant.

Why do you wish to continue having people jailed over this issue?
Why you putting words in my mouth?
if it legal to grow and possess
How would they put people in jail over a "plant"?

you could have the shit growing in your back yard and as long as you aint selling it they couldnt arrest you or tax you or regulate you
Becuase you are grwoing it for personal consumption

They would never tax hike alcohol like that because it makes too much money, just look at the alcohol related death stats to get a glimpse. When you think about it, prohibition IS a business. Ending it means finding new ways to create the money prohibition manifested. Here comes the good ole tax model. Once they do, prohibition will end as it inevitably will. . But then again...they've always known this day would come and are very prepared for it.

On an interesting note, the gentleman from NORML said that of the 12 mill they took in from the medicinal tax, 5 of it went law enforcement. Think about it, they're spending 5 mill. on enforcing the suppression of a plant less harmful and poisonous than the tap water flowing in my pipes. Prohibition was never about the well being of you and I.

further this list doesnt include the various "Sin Taxes" stamp taxes and other horseshit.

thats why a pack of butts in California currently hovers around $6.75, but when i was a lad of a mere 20 summers it was $2.80, and the carton price was even less

~250% increase in costs in 20 years. but yeah, theres no such thing as inflation
