New Zealand outdoor thread 2013/14 (all kiwis post!)

LT,

the third pic that Janicethewhite just posted shows a topped plant. Just cut the top off and it's done. Pinch the tip off or cut the top set of branches off. It will all work. Hard to screw it up. It's harder to FIM but they do the same thing.

Do a search for UncleBens topping technique. I think that's the right name.

Hey man sure has I have the feeling it will get quite tall. Thats awesome well be sweet then. Have had stellar weather here to everydays been hot as and burrrrning. I fully agree with you on the bull shit met service man because our temperatures are recorded just out of town or at the airport here I think and its defiantly hotter in some places. I recorded at leat 2 - 3 degrees higher than it on the website said and that's in the shade lol

Aw cheers for clearing the yellowing up just had to make sure. Yea I think that it is starting to show some sativa but yeah defiantly hybrid. My mate smelt it awhile ago and said it smelt like a mint plant haha But since its got bigger I think it smells minty, piney and has a sharp pungent fresh type smell to it so far. What do alternating internodes look like a picture would be awesome man? Yeah Ill probably visit mine maybe 1 - 2 times per week. Fresh water wouldn't be hard to find on a farm ha

Ah was wondering and had heard about topping. How and where on the plant do I top how does it all work. Ive got a rough idea but want to make sure haha

- Cheers man
Yeah she will get tall enough to satisfy you lol, I reckon 10 ft+. Man I've recorded like 5 degree higher with the thermometer under newspaper with a box on top!
They reckon TGA's highest temo recorded is 30 degrees ha!, what a crock of shit!. Apparently they have had complaints from people in Tauranga about the bull shit temps.
I think I'm getting some rain tonight  perfect because I don't want to go down there and make the tracks more evident!.

Minty piney aromas are good!, more likely to be sativa but then again my Landrace indica has a minty lemon hash aroma. Just google alternating marijuana internodes or something lol, notice how all the growth on your plant is exactly opposite each other. I'm not 100% if alternating internodes mean female but in my experience it does, my Taskenti cutting is already showing them. Il chuck a pic up if I can be bothered lol.

I second what BC said, you can straight chop the whole top off or you can pinch out the newest leaf growth at the very top of the plant. Fimming is harder to do but can create 4 new tops! my dad can do it mean as. You can't go wrong mate, how many grows have you done? If this is your first one or two outside then you have done a very decent effort man!

hoonry & BC - Didn't you guys know that gauze grows here naturally ha ha! na just another stoner moment of mine, gorse is straight up nasty and no 'lost or Wandering idiots will stumble upon my plants. If I lose these plants I swear I'm going to cry! I've had too many loses outdoor and these are definitely not the genetics to lose! last year 10 of my afghani clones were eaten by possums but I sucked it up and I had that strain for too long anyways, losing these panama hash plants will kill me.

Hey guys, thanks BC and CK for the help very much appreciated Im pretty sure I know what to do now. Also checked out that uncle bens topping guide awesome stuff! (Ah I remember uncle bens particularly the rice packets). 10ft would be amazing hope it does get that big lol Mate Im not supprised id complain if it was that bad 30 is defiantly not TGA's highest, Im sure it gets a hell of a lot hotter than that up there! They defiantly need to change the the recording location I mean damn your getting 5 degress above what it supposedly Is. I reckon the temps should be taken in the majority of the town ship instead of out of town.

I did some research and i now understand what the alternating nodes are and It mentioned something about that meaning it is sexually maturing. Also I think I know how to top it now Im heading up to my spot tomorrow to water it and check it out. Cheers for the help. This is my first grow ever man.. ever haha Never done indoors and this is my first outdoors. Shot for that

Oh and don't we all have those stoner moments I certainly do
Anyway Ill chuck some pictures up tomorrow and give you all a little update the weather has been great here. A tiny bit of rain last night I think but other than that its been sunny everyday appart from one since I last posted pictures. Just the mid 20's 23 24 25. Thanks guys everyone's is looking primo!

Yeah It does get hot up here but not as hot as south island in full on summer which is still to come, I reckon we might break some records this summer. Today was nice and cool and for once the metservice was spot on(only .2 higher on my thermometer). We got a little bit of rain last night too but they were massive raindrops so I shouldn't need to visit mine for awhile.

They should take temps from a few different places and average them out because NZ has so many mircoclimates it's crazy, even in TGA we have mini climate variations from place to place. The only difference between our climates is I get higher night temps than you but our daytime temps are identical at the moment.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tashkent Check this place out man, this is where my Taskenti landrace indica comes from. Amazingly rugged climate man and I think this strain would thrive anywhere in NZ. Would be hard to kill this strain. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chitral I also have a fem seed from this amazing place.

My clones have alternating internodes though?. Most first grows outside suck lol, no nutrients or protection usually - you have already sussed the basics out and I bet you'll be a good outdoor grower over the next few seasons. I remember my first grow(at 15 or 16 with a mate) we only got a half ounce off some late planted seed ha ha! Still good weed and had magenta hairs  when me and dad first started smoking together he started to teach me some old school techniques - He was a hard out commercial grower on the mountain tops in Taupo! so much UV exposure up there and volcanic soil! (mt ruapehu erupted around that time). The used to grow seeds and select the best ones out of 500 and grew in cages. I don't think I'll ever grow to that scale ever lol.

CK, I don't think what you said about males not having alternating nodes is correct, your clones have alternating because the mother you cut them off is mature and started alternating, most strains the change from opposite to alternating is around 40-60 days. any clones taken after this happens will already be "mature" that's why indoors you can flower a clone straight away and a seed will grow until its matured and then start flowering.
pretty cool your old man showed you a few things about growing, my parents are straight as and no fun lol. do you guys get spotter plane and chopper up there?

You're probably right, I haven't grown enough males to say that lol the last time I grew any I didn't know what I was up to with growing anyways ha.
Yeah mate it's a family tradition pretty much  I'm not too sure, I'd say so but mine are on a farm. Spotter planes would be more interested in public/doc land aye?.
It's a f**king waste of time and tax payers dollars, even if they ripped 100,000 plants over NZ it still wouldn't do jack shit. NZ government and politics are what let this country down. - over 75% of people in NZ want it decriminalised but all peter dunne has to say is "oh we are not really interested in changing the laws and a law change is not on the agenda". This country needs new leadership.

One day I'm going to make 1000's of seeds and spread them all over my town as a protest, I should do it year after year until they relax the laws a bit  I'm sick of being paranoid about it!.

Oh yeah and everyone in NZ be extra careful with phone calls and texts because of that GCSB bill allowing them to record and store everything!! some messed up times we are in.

CK the GCSB bill also allows them to spy on your internet usage too. If they wanted to know you are an active member on a cannabis forum they can. Kiwi's spying on Kiwi's to enforce laws made by Kiwi's to stop Kiwi's from using a plant is truly some messed up shit.

Best of luck with your grow this year, I will keep my eye on your progress.

Yeah It can get pretty hot in some parts of the south island I reckon. Agreed man they should defiantly take the temps from a few different places and average is out. Your night temps are defiantly better. Like I just checked my over night lows for the next few days and its all over the place, 6 9 11 14 9 lol 6 is pretty low for this time of year but I dont reckon itl get that cold tonight. Your getting 14 13 17 14 14 so defiantly some some difference I guess. Your dead right so many micro climates, It seems to vary a lot even in places that arent that far from each other.

Those places on wiki look mad as the climates are amazing it would grow anywhere! haha Prime genetics. I was thinking what DD was thinking maybe because they're clones and confirmed females. If hes right though mine should show alternating nodes soon because its about 44 days old so anytime in the next 20 days or so I guess. Thanks mate its mainly come down to determination and a shit load of research  I reckon the whole topic of it is rather interesting lol Half ounce from those circumstances id be happy with that. haha Damn your dad grew on the massive scale! Nothing better than the tried and true old school techniques ha. My dad used to grow back in the 70,s and 80,s on back on those old school genetics. Lets get the genetics back out there :weed:
Went and checked my baby yesterday and its looking mighty fine. Its really stretching alot between each peer of nodes. Stems starting to get harder and looking alot more thicker. Also I topped it so hope that all goes well. Its getting more of a distinct smell now. Really really piney and fresh smell. Looks like something tried to have a wee nibble on a few of the leaves but nothing major. Heres some pictures of it all, cheers! V bottle for size comparison.

Yeah especially on the east coast of the south island. My temperature got to 29.4 today in the shade under a hanging tent fly, oh yeah rain tomorrow too!
It's hot up where I live, the heat gets trapped in my house, a 10-15 minute drive away at my mums is way cooler.

The Chitral kush mountains is a MUST visit place for any marijuana enthusiasts, you can smell weed anywhere in that region apparently you can just put your head out the window and smell the sweet aroma of hash plants  I love Asian/middle eastern landrace indicas! I love hash too - much better to smoke than regular ganja.
Watch the Swaziland strain hunters expedition man, the best outdoor growers in the world imo.

Back inn those days all our dads and granddads were Landrace sativas or close to it, not many indicas back then. Yeah the old school growers are the best.

Your plant's very vigorous mate!, I'm confident shes slightly more sativa because of the node spacing, structure and the leaves aren't the broadest either and you say she smells piney and fresh.
Probably a slug or snail, nothing to worry about. The topping will make your plant look a lot nicer and bushier.

Malawi
malawi5.jpgMalawi1.jpgMalawi2.jpgmalawi3.jpgMalawi4.jpgvery well structured plant, bushing out from the bottom up. Landrace sativa leaves for sure.

Panama
panama4.jpgPanama1.jpgPanama2.jpgPanama3.jpgtopped these, looked like they needed some water(windy when taking the photos) but should be on their way after news years.

Taskenti
Tashkenti.jpgTaskenti2.jpg My seed bearing plant, I like the indicas to be pollinated. Plus the progeny is sativa leaning too. god I love these ancient Indicas

We're starting to turn into the US with dodgy administration. I work hard all week, what do I get in return? government spying on me. I deserve privacy and it is my human giving right to grow this plant lol. 89% of us didn't want this, looks like we don't get an effing say! who's the real criminals here mate? certainly not me or any other hard working kiwis using this plant for themselves.

Man those plants are looking pretty! Getting nice an bushy. The leaves are so thin its cool. Awesome to see a an original strain like Malawi. Probably been around for thousands of years, doesn't get much better than that  Panama an Takenti look mad aswell!
Woah thats hot mate reckon your January temps will be pretty high?

Oh man wouldnt that be amazing just putting your head out the window and smelling it! Id lay in the fields all day just smoking it lol Never had hash but I must try it one day. The strain hunter videos are awesome I reckon. I watched the Swaziland expedition maybe around a month or so ago. Such awesome videos I like watching them search for genetics and wild ganja its rather enjoyable. Defiantly the best growers I mean they go to all these places and get the best genetics

Cheers man It is quite vigorous how long do you reckon it will veg till? Hopefully awhile Id like to see it a decent size. I agree id say its slightly more sativa over indica. Oh sweet as nothing to worry about then. Think im gonna head up to my spot on maybe Friday early in the morning and see when it first gets sun. I know it gets most of the sun like 12:00 till 4:30 - 5:00 but I havent been before then so I might go up and 9 or 10 and check it out and cut some branches back because Its got a better chance of the morning sun that the late afternoon/evening sun.

hey bro i kinda fucked up, gave all my plants a really high nitrogen fertiliser now all the bottom leaves are dying and turning yellowy brown kinda transparent in places aswell im trying to flush them as 3 are still in 10l buckets, i would say approximately 25-30% of the plant looks like this, have i killed them ya reckon?

Yeah I'm liking how they're growing, like the bottom is fully bushed out with lots of tops. Yeah I'm all about the 'original' strains, I don't take americanised 'hyperids' seriously lol. I want to go to the Chitrali kush mountains to get my own landrace hash plants one day, apparently the opium of cannabis. Thai sativas being cocaine .
The Panama got a bit fried from the sun but this rain and the topping will do them good. I reckon we'll break records lol, I predict 33+degree days(real reading, not metservice) on average.

Yeah I reckon Pakistan would be the best place for Indicas and India, You'll get some finger hash from trimming up your harvest. Oh mate you're missing out if you havn't had hash! so much better than ganja by itself - I used to make hash from a landrace Afghani, oh so tasty and good  Lol Arjan Roskam and Green House Seeds are a joke but they are good docos.

Hmm not too sure as every strain is different but since it aint a Landrace Sativa I'd say late jan to early feb and not to mention how much she'll stretch in flower too. Even 6 ft for your first plant is amazing, you can never expect too much from your first grow but I can definitely say you're on the right track to being a mean outdoor grower! I'll chuck you some Malawi fem and you'll be set for a long time!.

Yeah I always visit my plants at different times to see where the sun is, It's harder to find a spot than most people would think. I went through the Kaimai's searching for spots but still no avail!.
I seen your latest pics on that outdoor thread, looking very good mate! big long sativa leaves.

Bet theyl be starting to get big soon? Fair enough mate id probably go for the original strains to be honest and maybe the occasional decent hybrid but keep it classic and keep classy I reckon :-) So many random hybrids and shit out there these days its crazy lol When my dad talks about strains he doesn't mention any of the newer ones infact he hardly knows of them he just mentions the few main ones they had back then. Oh man Id love to go there I can imagine the Thai sativas being cocaine. Bet it hits you right in the head and wakes you up real good  Be awesome to get those temps 33+. The weathers been fairly average down here at the moment. Had some rain on Tuesday morning and very early Wensday so thatl do it good. Oh and quite strong winds. Just had warm sort of north to northwest rain of the hills which is nothing compared to winter because In winter it comes from down south and packs a punch haha Nice day today though.

Damn gotta put that one the bucket list. Must try hash haha Aw yeah jan/feb is fine by me to be honest for a first grow im quite happy with it. Cheers some fem seeds would be awesome! 6ft is algood with me at first I contemplated whether it would live because I broke the stem a little when it was tiny and hardly knew what I was doing but Ive learnt loads in the last couple of months. If I had have known I could get it out earlier I probably would have germinated earlier. I had a few problems though. I tried the soak in cup germination and one popped through but I left it a day to long and it died. Tried that twice and then tried the wet paper towel method with 4 seeds and this was the only one that properly germinated ;-) Your right It is actually quiet difficult to get a decent inclosed spot. Shot man Ill get some pictures up when I next check it. Should be looking good.
