with it that big and established and also being in flowering with a month left its going to be impossible to not shock it or at least set it back if you do try i would hit it with a dose of b1 or i like fox farms big bloom and try and be gentle the first couple days if you do decide to try it...
I like to pull back the bud by the dropping till i find the caterpillar. if the nug or hairs turn color and start to rot I cut that piece off,watch for the little poop dots and keep a close eye,
If I were you i would look for more caterpillars /worm borers. usually that seem to be the case for dead single buds and turning hairs just look on the buds that seem to be turning or dying and see if you can see little brown or black dots or balls ( their poop)on the bud or fan leaves. if so...
it means someone found a seed that expressed a certain phenotype, grew that female ,took clones but never had a male to make seeds with .or someone created thier own cross or strain by breeding making them only available by cuttings

I have always heard its best to hold of as long as you can sort of wet dry wet and so on but you dont want to wait till the plant is shocked,try and get it right before for best results
