those are mites and you have plenty of reason to worry, they eat plants and lay eggs which mature and hatch in about 5 days. Neem or tobacco tea will kill them but needs to be reapplied often to get the babies when they hatch. you gotta stay on the babies or they will keep coming back.

They are overwatered. Only flood when they need it and make sure its @ the right levels as everyone said. You may not have enough o2 in your res as well even if the water level and timing is in check.

why even bother? Colors are mainly kept in fan leaves, which you said youll be removing (and are removed to trim anyways)

that isnt a fact dude, that is just against the way that you like to grow is all. I find that plants using water daily means that I can feed higher amounts, more often and flush more often if I need to. there is no CORRECT plant to pot size. they can survive in anything thatyoud like them to...
