some of us dont want to waste our time growing pot unless its the best we can possibly achieve.
If it aint killer it aint worth risking jail time for it to me.

There are ways of doing things right even on the cheap though. It certianly wont come from a hydro store I can say that much,
Shady bastids mark everything up 60% @ least usually.

Most retail is marked up 100%, to cover costs and shit, unless its a high turnover type industry like food or a high volume store, like the big box retailers. A lot of times when you see something marked down 20 - 30% on sale, the company's still making a nice profit.

And they say we are the crooked ones for smoking a little herb.

The op has gnats, that's what they are. Well technically gnat larvae and you will only see them when you water. You'll see them in your runoff water by the thousands too. They eat your roots.

don't want to spend money? no problemo....

Go find enough sand to put 1-2" on top of the soil on every pot. They can't continue to breed with the sand in their way and that's that.

If you are just grabbing free sand from who knows where you should both wash and bake it to sterilize it.

Then you just water right through the sand like nothing is different from now on.

I got the buggers for the first time in 5 years. Fox Farm Ocean Forest. Ever since they changed to a peat moss mix I keep screwing up. I remember only 6 months ago they still used mostly soil in their bags. Now its 50% peat moss.

With the older mix the soil dried up very fast. Got a lot more compact too. I had a great feed schedule and everything worked quite nicely. Now with the ton of peat moss mixed in it takes forever to dry.

I used to feed my 3 gallon pots with 1/2 gallon of water 3 times a week. Now it's 1/2 a gallon once a week and I'm worried that they ain't getting enough nutrients. The soil stays wet as shit and never completely dries up. I don't know how often to feed them now because they are always wet and the damn fungus gnats wont die off.

I'm probably going to back off to a quart of water per feed. But I just don't see this soil drying anytime soon.
