If you start 12/12 before your plant is sexually mature, you'll just have to wait longer for it to flower. Less daylight hours = slower growth. @ 12 - 15" or 5 weeks most strains are sexually mature, regardless of alternating nodes, or preflowers, but if you see preflowers it's already sexually mature regardless of age... It's probably genetic. I've seen many seedlings come out of the shell purple, and stains like blue moonshine have purple and red stems.

its green at the spot where the leaves branch off the stem.
