Not sure of the exact reason, but after the leech, both issues seem to have subsided, though the dying leaves are all but done and there's never any going back from the claw.
I'm going to keep an eye on it, hopefully I won't need to post again in that thread and instead you can see how well it's doing in the new journal I just started:
