i wouldnt really worry about it. i got a couple of little sample bags of that stuff at a hydro store. you dont really need it. whatever soil you are going to use will have all the nesessary bacteria you need anyways if you go for a good soil like some fox farms or something it might have more of...

the color on the stems actually means whether they are red or purple just means theres a hormonal change in the plant and the way the chlorophyll is produced in photosynthesis. theres nothing wrong with it and genetics has something to do with how much red or purple is going to be present.
