5th gen Citizen 1212 typical voltage 34.6?

The Citizen 5th Gen 3000k Below BBL datasheet states that the Typ voltage is 34.6, whereas the 5th Gen selection tool gives a Voltage reading of 36.9 for 1350mA.

What voltage should I expect? Which datasheet should I go by?

It is critical that I get this right as I was planning to get the ELG-240-C1400A, which has a max voltage of 180 with current range of 700 - 1400mA.




I want to run 5 cobs each at 36v * 1400mA = 50W

If I buy the C1400A driver, could I perhaps find myself out of the range?

If I go upto the C1750, then the max voltage for that is 137V - cannot even run 4 cobs at 50w each...

theyre the same if you put in the same current and temp

the datasheet is for 1080 mA. it includes a curve for determining voltage at other currents as well

When I put current 1080, and Tc to 25 in editor box, I get Voltage 35.8 with Tc 38
Setting Tc to 10 in editor box, with same 1080, I get Voltage 36.2 Tc 25

EDIT : well, looking at datasheet curve, shows that voltage should be above 36 once hitting above 1200mA

No need to worry about that till you're running them at like .35A or something like that, it's only ever going to be off by maybe a volt or so.

Lucky I made this thread, just noticed the ELG are not so "identical" fo the HLG

The ELG 1400 Max are = 239W, 171V, whereas the HLG Max are = 249W, 179V

I guess the ELG's are not an option anymore, will have to go HLG route.

hey dawg, i think need to brush up on my electrical theory.. the Hlg-185-1400b i think says 143v max.. i have the 4 1212's on it. so if i ran it full out would i not be at that max? around 140ish+?? i dont think im gonna go above 1050ma, but i was having the same concerns as Joe34

Hey Guys On Some Of These Driver Theirs A lot Of Wiggle Room. Like The HLG185-1400 Over Voltage Protection Kicks In At 160v. Now I Don't Recommend Running Them That Hard However A Couple of Volts Isn't Stressing The Driver. Here's Pic Of My 1212 On A HLG-185-1400B.

@The Dawg Hey, You said overvoltage kicked in at 160v when that drivers stated range is 71v - 143v, also you are running it above the 1.4mA range too...

With that said, Do you think using the ELG-240-C1400A (not HLG) I would be able to run 5 COBS at 36v each(180v total), at 1400mA - 50w each(250w total)?

The driver spec for ELG-240-C1400 states
239.4W total
86v - 171v
700mA - 1400mA

I would need to 9v and 10w above the spec

Alright Here's The Deal With These Data Sheets. Their Different Meaning That The HLG 185-1400 Doesn't Specify Open Circuit Voltage Max As Where The HLG 240-1400 Does State The Max Open Voltage Which Is 182v With Over Voltage Protection At 192v. So I Would Ass/u/me That The Max Voltage For the HLG 185-1400 Would be 150v.

Now the ELG-240-1400 Open Circuit Voltage Max is 180 With Over Voltage Protection Kicking In At 190. So The HLG-240-1400 Is A Better Fit Because It Give Yall 2 More Volts Wiggle Room

those are pretty new, i dont know anybody running them. you might need to buy one and report back

@CobKits I made some queries as to why the ELG are cheaper/lighter/smaller than the HLG.

The answers which came back multiple times is that, the ELG are made on a automatic production line and come with less warranty (5 years).

they probably use cheaper components/simpler circuits in places as well, considering they cant give full power when fed with 120V.

Interesting that the HLG over voltage protection is 188 ~ 206V and the ELG 192 ~ 216V

Wouldn't the 4v gain from the lowest Over Protection Voltage with the ELG be better than the 2v gain from the Open Circuit Voltage?

Ummmm...I run a hlg-185h-c1400b on 4 cxb3590's wide open and on my Kill A Watt meter have 201w.

36v x 1.4amp=50.4 watts per COB

I plan on running this same type driver on 4 3000K 90cri 1212's once the parts all get here.

NOPE Because You Want To Stay On The South Side Of Over Voltage Protection. I Myself Don't Like Going Over The Open Circuit Max Voltage

Yes But You Know Not All Cobs Run the Same The CXB3590 36v Is Tested At 2.4 Amp's And The CLU0-48-1212 Tested 34.6v At 1080mA. So You See The Citizen 1212 Will Not perform The Same As The Cree CXB
