DIY with Quantum Boards

QB288 at its max rating still puts out almost double what these boards do! 4 QB 288 would STOMP these on output and I'll bet their lights aren't cheap! you have to contact them to get a price....

I like the big board concept, that said, I'll stick with my 4 board QB 304!

i just saw this on youtube, its like crazy big quantumboards. 24V or 48V @ 100W a panel take a look:

got 330 LED's per panel and 6 panels

how do they ged rid of the heat? or isnt there much heat to get rid off?
You have to give credit to Smart Grow for publishing the sphere data for their light...few vendors do. But under 100 lumens/watt is nothing to get to excited about...I mean the QBs kick sand in the face of the Smart Grow lights!

And I think they did not put a decimal point in the PPF for the light. It should be 867 or 868 PPF for the whole light...which would put it about 1.7umols/joule for the system. Just about what a top DE would do.

It would take 2 of those to equal a DE. 1010 watts at 1.7umols/j

So how many QB boardss do I need to match a top DE?

If you run them hard and manage to maintain 50% eff. Then they will put out 2.43 umoles/j/w. If a DE has a PPF of 1700 then you will need 700w from the QB.

That is comparing the data. It is said that the QB grows better and you don't need as much power so it is hard to tell exactly.

I would say 6 QB288 ran at 2100mA would compare or be better.

Not really on topic but most of us using QB are running them passive/heat sink only.
thats a good information. so maybe they dont need a heatsink cause they dont drive them so hard? the point i wanted to get clear for myself is, if i would use a QB ( size doesnt matter ) how hard could i drive it without any heatsink? or if i turn it around, imagine they would use a passive heatsink on their panels and drive them harder.

atm for me it looks like this [QB with passive heatsink] is outperforming [Smart Grow without any heatsink]. so the question i'm asking myself is, how would that race go out if u give both a passive heatsink or take the heatsink from both and drive them equally strong.

my understanding is you could run a QB at up to 50 watts without a heatsink. Considering how cheap the heatsinks are, I see no good reason to run without a heatsink.

No thermal droop is minimal on the LM561C. I'm guessing smart grow isn't using top bin or the latest Samsung's. There are others that make this size mid power. Samsung's just happen to be the best.

"QB Presale starting 4th April. QB288, QB304, Slate 1 & 2 , 90/135/260. Orders ship in 4-10 days from day of order"
Looks like today isn't the day :(
Boards will be here in 5 days. Need a day to test. Slate 1 already on its way.
Slate 2 shipping in 2-3 days. Slate 2 is heavier so small delay in getting them shipped.
QB 304 75 (3000K, 4000K)
QB 288 71.50 (2700K, 3000K, 5000K)

You can also pre order Maxipad on our website next week. :hump:

Getting drivers, power cords, wagos, screws, heatsinks, hangers, drivers, packing supplies. Adding rates to Israel, Greece, Canada, UK, EU. Also testing boards to confirm bins.
Hard to ship 500lbs of heatsinks any faster. Please hold on to your money for another week. Sorry for the delay.
Hope these blue Slate 1 will make up for delay.
