Vermicomposters Unite! Official Worm Farmers Thread

This is basically what I do. I call it composting in place. Just make sure to create little pockets of material throughout the bed. For instance, compost top left, top middle, top right, middle left... ect. It basically creates pockets of nutrients in the soil.

Sand! It is already a huge component of soil. Worms use it for grit. Win win.

Lava rock and pumice shouldnt be this hard and expensive to find

Yeah the napa oil dry is fine. Beware of oil dry quality control since it is used as a cleanup product. I bought once and it was a very soft clay product. It didn't hurt my grow, but I did have to rinse to get rid of all the dust. Rinsing might not be necessary.

Lava rock and pumice shouldnt be this hard and expensive to find

Turface MVP is a better alternative. Super easy to find. 15 dollars for 50 lbs if I remember correctly.

    Cover Crops ? :)

Cover crops really won't prevent pests indoors unless you have a room big enough to create an ecosystem. That being said, I run clover mulch indoors with plenty of rotting organic matter. It keep worms and beneficial mites at the soil level. My biggest concern is spider mites and I've kept them...

Arduino + Blumat for soil moisture monitoring

Very cool idea. I'm working on the same concept. Do you see any pressure leakage with the cap? I'm surprised it fit so well. edit: Additionally, is the sensor water resistant? can you move the entire sensor unit upside down and still function afterward?

Environment control? - Free or Open Source automation e.g. DIY Arduino or similar?

Very stable. The dev is also super active. If you need a sensor added, or anything really, you can hit him up and he will try to add it. Usually super quickly.

    did anyone tried?

You can do this really easily with LEDs. Mycodo is a great control software for the rpi that has the ability to implement this. Have I done it? No. Why? The light in my tent doesn't compare to what you see outdoors. So you wouldn't be hitting DLI for the plants. Am I interested? Yes, I...

Check out the SHT31 dev pack on mouser for temp and humidity logging. I use it, works great with Rpi and a usb bluetooth dongle. Should be like 40 bucks I think. This one really has my interest: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/miflora/ Haven't had to time to get and test. but it...

Natural Cannabis Death Cycle. (An imperfect test)

Super interesting idea. How are you going to simulate the death cycle? Just let it go until it is brown? It might be cool to have ever decreasing light on cycles and maybe drop temp as well. I don't know for sure, but I don't think cannabis will just up and die. Will plants will grow forever...
