1 gallon container big enough?

Right now I am growing in 1 gallon pots and I am starting to see the roots poke out of the drainage holes just a bit. I am growing indoor under CFLs and I was planning to switch to 12/12 when the plants are between a 12 and 18 inches. Are these containers going to be large enough or will I have to transplant? I have no idea what strain this is either, it's a bagseed grow with random seeds I have collected over time.

A 1 gallon pot is alright for plants finishing at 18" to 24". That's what I use for my SOG. That sounds a little tall for CFLs though, they don't have the light penetration of HID lamps. How many CFLs are you using, and how close to the plant are they? Good Luck with it and keep us updated.

20 CFLs at the moment, which is about 40k lumen give or take 2k, I have to replace some lights and was to lazy to count it up again. All the lights are within 3 inches, some 2 inches, depends on where they are on my light fixture.

Should I start them flowering eariler then 12" then?

Yah,they'll strech a bit in flowering,I move them into the bloom room at about 10' to 12" and end upwith 18" to 24" plants at maturity. Sounds like enuff light ,but I don't really know about CFLs, only use flourescents for cloning, MH for veg and HPS's for bloom. Check CFL threads if you have any questions about them.

no, it's not big enough, usually. if you do things like FDD does then yeah thats plenty big. but generally you want about 1 gallon per ft of growth. since your gunna flower at 1 ft and they generally double in size, you want a 2 or 3 gallon pot.

Cool, I was planning to flower to 12 to 18 inches because I had read most people saying to flower at about the 16 inch size in the CFL forum and not all my plants are the same size so I figured it was a good range. But not all information on forums is good, so 10 inch would suit me fine as well.

I am really trying to wait for some sign of preflowering before transplanting, since I really don't want to waste the soil on males.

I usually start in 1 gallon and finish in either 3 or 5 gal. Water intake can vary so much in flowering, you have to have a bigger container, IMHO. Vege water consumption always seems more linear in my grows.

In flower, they'll be days when you swear the plant will drink a gallon of water.

speaking of water, and off topic. Right now I just buy the 1 gallon jugs of distilled water at the store. Can I just use those big 5 gallon things that you fill in the machine they have out in front of most grocery stores?

How old are your plants and the roots are already sticking out of the 1 gallon pot??? How deep did you plant them?? Post some pics cause your post is very vague.. You could get a lot better advice.. Why are you buying distilled water? Why are you not using your house water? Is it well water?

I think you should go with bigger pots like 10 or something cause those plants look short and busshy.

Guys, short and bushy can cause fat colas and great yields. What are you going to do when you have more weed than you planned on having? Better stretch your ladies out just to be safe.

I have defiantly flowered 2' plants in 1 gal. pots, actually when i run low on pots i use plastic coffee cans but that is only if i have to and only for a lil while til some bigger ones open up. it can be done but if you can get bigger pots do it your plants will love you for it. if you can't, plan on watering it alot and having a little less bud to harvest

The are about a month old I guess, on friday they will be at least. I have them in smaller pots before then and transplanted over maybe three weeks ago. As far as the water I was told by the local hydro shop guy to use the distilled, and most people on here seem to give advice along that lines as well. I live in california, no well water, just the local water system.

As far as pictures you can see them here https://www.rollitup.org/cfl-growing/60390-my-first-grow-bagseed.html
