Only going to smoke two types of strains; one for sleeping and one for hiking/outdoor activities

I have insomnia and I need a strain that WILL turn me into a log and WILL knock me out. No hybrid or any trace of sativa in it. Something very potent, but not potent enough that I am over medicated from one joint. Any strain ideas will be a great help! I just want to know the F777 out within 20-30 minutes after I smoke a joint and pass out. PLease help. Thanks ahead of time for all the advice. Now, what knock out heavy hitting strains do you guys recommend?

You want something that's going to knock you out but not overmedicate?.

In that case I cannot recommend one b/c it doesn't exist.

Best I can recommend is herijuana, but it will overmedicate.

For a good nights sleep go with edibles, and for the best results use snacks made from a strong indica in hash oil. Edibles are much longer lasting for sure. You may have to experiment a bit to dial in what works best for you. Good Luck!

An alternative would be to smoke some good quality hashish but the edibles will stay in your bloodstream an easy 6-7 hours.

I second edibles as you can eat them about an hour before bed and it will slowly creep up on you and let you rest. :)

I have a hybrid that knocks me out all the time but it was a one off project that a former partner made. (Maui Wowwie x 707 Headband) I have yet to find something that knocks me out as much as this one.

I grew out a Pre98 Bubba and while it's good for insomnia it is not at all a motivating strain.

Your best bet is to give your self a couple of strains to play with. For instance when I want to get up and move around I reach for the Green Crack or Blue Dream. When I want to go to sleep I reach for the Pre98, maui hybrid, or Redwood Kush. There are times when I want some pain relief but I want to keep moving so I take a pinch of the heavier indicas and top it with something a little lighter and I'm good to go. It took me a good year to find the right combo that worked for me. You are doing a good job of researching. :)

Something that WILL knock you out? Northern Lights harvested late. Sometimes it's really hard to improve on a classic.

The Aurora Indica does it because of the NL in it, in my very unscientific opinion. But ultimately you will have to try some strains out and see what works for you, as the others have said. Still, it's hard to beat a good NL for a knock down stone. Harvest it late and it's night night time.

I can confirm that Pre-98 will faceplant you. I take 1 puff and in about 5-10 minutes I'm out for the next 6+ hours and I have a friend here who can confirm that LOL. Most amazing of all it's all given to me free from Collective_Gardener here who is 'supporting' me while I bridge the gap of growing my own.

I'm growing this version of it:
http://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/cali-connection-seedspre-98-bubba-bx2feminized/prod_3511.html

The seedlings were put into germination on 2/28 and they are already unfurling their 7 finger leaves. I'm worried my big light won't be done on the Aurora Indica soon enough. I germinated these based on the 6 weeks it took my AI to get going. Well these are acting like race horses. If you'd like to see what they look like I think I have a recent image of them in my grow journal (in my sig). Oh and there's images of my 7th week in flower Aurora Indicas too.

I don't think this Pre-98 will be as strong as what CG grows but it's so potent this only needs to come close. I'd be happy with a 2 or 3 puff faceplant LOL. But if you can lay your hands on some real Pre-98 it will do the job for insomnia.

Thanks so much guys for all the feedback. And yes, you don't have to over medicate to enjoy the medicinal effects. For me, I set my limit to one joint per night and maybe a break day so I can drink tea. And if I keep it at one joint a night to help sleep, I wont need more than that. But to each his own, and when I vacation to Amsterdam its a free for all! Im drooling over the Aurora Indica and Bubba Kush! Ill have to go to my local meds and have a joint test for sure! Has anyone had any experience with Green House's Bubba Kush? http://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/greenhouse-bubba-kush/prod_771.html

Just to be clear, I don't. I was responding to the question, "Can anyone else confirm that this is a strain perfect for insomnia".
Thanks Colonuggs! Because of your tip I went on the hunt and found this strain http://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/greenhouse-bubba-kush/prod_771.html. Looks promising. I used leafly.com to see what people said about it and one person said

"its good for sleeping, however i would not recommend this strain if you were out and about walking or on a day trip etc"

Can anyone else confirm that this is a strain perfect for insomnia?

Sorry if I was confusing. Anecdotally sativas induce panic attacks in me but everyone's reaction to Marijuana varies so what works for me may make you ill and vice versa. But those were the Sativas you got, in CA, back in the late '60's early '70's. Based on what I see grown and in the dispensaries today nothing looks/smells even close to them. It's also why we didn't grow much, even though our lids (old person's slang for an oz), were generously peppered with seeds. No one wanted a 12 foot cannabis tree outside there house, LOL, and it wouldn't really fit inside easily. Although I am sure some did just none in my circle.

I have to agree with the edibles solution. I've found that just smoking only lasts a short time and I either have to get up and smoke more, or just suffer. By injesting rather than smoking the effects are more 'knock you out' and last all night. I've been relying on my cannibus cookies for several years to get a good nights sleep. It doesnt seem to matter what strain is used to make my canna butter just so I use quality buds and trimm. Also I find that if I try and just 'smoke' for relief, I build up a tolerance to it and over a period of time I don't get any real relief. My sleepy time routine is simple, eat one cookie, smoke a bowl, and its out for the night.
