I will be beginning my indoor growing career starting in August. I am moving into an apartment and will have available space for a grow room. Here is the list of supplies equating to a total of $1000:

-400w HPS Ballast & HPS Bulb - $305.45
http://miniurl.com/1525

-400w MH/HPS Ballast & MH Bulb - $354.45
http://miniurl.com/1524

-Uvonair Ultra Violet Ozonator 5000 - $199.00
http://miniurl.com/1523

-Oasis automatic watering system - $89
http://miniurl.com/1522

-CO2 Boost Kit - $129.99
http://miniurl.com/1521

It ends up coming out to be a little over $1000 total cost, but I believe that this system will provide some very nice yields and tasty plants.

Let me know if anyone has any questions or suggestions.

Let me spend your thousand for you they way I did it.

Nextgen Ballast 400w/600w HPS or MH 289.00
Eye hortilux MH blue eye 119.00 400w
Eye hortilux HPS 119.00
Stink buds cloneing system 79.00 with all parts
Art-DNe Timer 92.00

That around 750 and grab the ozone control and you should be fine but how big is the room? how many plants?

Co2 is a waste if your room is not sealed, your humidity is not controlled or your temp.

How many plants are you planning to grow?
A perpetual grow of 5 plants a month.

Thanks I'll look into some of those products.

you need a carbon filter as well as an inline fan to keep everything cool, I use the OZN-1 ozone generator with a can filter.
Upgrade to 600 watter, you will put out a lot more light more efficiently, http://www.hidhut.com/catalog/light-kits-c-25_49.html
I don't believe things are going to get too hot in the room. I think I can maintain temps around 70-80 degrees. Why should I get two 600W lights rather than the 400W?

You will double your yield from a 400watt light to a 600watt light is why you should get the 600watt light.

YOu will for sure need an inline fan. Whether you are using the 400watt or 600watt light. Don't try and reinvent the wheel by thinking you can achieve someting that no on else can. Like keeping your cab in the 80's without an exhaust fan.

Ditch the Co2 boost. All they are doing is fermenting compost in that bucket. There is no way to control how much Co2 comes out and they run out pretty quick.

Just buy the 600watt HPS ballast from HTG supply for like $175 and a bulb for like $50. Then just use cfls for veg. It will save you a ton of money.

Don't use the ozone gen, they are bad for people, bad for your plants, and give off a tell tale smell. Get a carbon filter combo with your inline fan instead of the ozone gen and co2 boost. This will cost you about the same amount of money.

I honestly think you have a lot reading to do before you set this thing up. I am not trying to be mean, but if you think you can get away with no exhuast fan, etc than you still have a lot to learn. Check into the grow room design part and see if you can't get some ideas from the other people. There is nothing wrong with following someone else's room to the "T".

If you get a spray bottle and some tonic water and just spray the leaves it works pretty well. It is a nice alternative to spending all that money on the tank and gas.

Harvest 5 a month?? So your figuring to always having at least 10-15 in 12/12? Depending on how long you veg for.... How much room/light do you plan for??

...and nobody said to get two 600's......he meant 'switchable' from MH to hps.........though you will wish you had 2 600's haha, lol!

....as bongrippinbob said, on everything! I wouldn't even be thinking Co2, period........until you have everything else in-line, working to it's fullest......then when you need something extra to throw in the mix, try Co2.......-----or yeah, try tonic water(haha!)<---the price is right.

........and what medium are you working with?? Somebody mentioned StinkBud's system.........yeah, all of that! It rocks too!!

Get your intake/exhaust worked out. You in a tent or a room or a cab?

Have fun! Learn lots!! Key here will be ventilation, believe that.....you dont even want a sealed room yet........

How can I get an exhaust fax and all that setup while I'm living in an apartment building? Can someone send me a link?

I live in an apt and I have an exhaust fan. You don't have to vent the room that the cab is in, just the cab itself.

If you want to vent the entire room, look into building a "window box". This will block any one from seeing into the bedroom but you can also exhaust out the window.

You are not going to want to use the entire bedroom with only 600watts. And even smaller if you go with the 400watt light. For the 600watt light you will want like a 4'x4' area to grow in. With the 400watt closer to like 3'x3'. You will need like 465cfm exhaust to cool your cab with a 600watt light.

And don't forget about the cost of soil, nutes, and electricity. Plus problems arise, so save some money for when they do.

Befroe you go out and spend a dime, read, read, read! Spend the next month reading like 3 hours a night on this stuff and by the time you actually set yours up, you will be ready to roll. There is no reason to spend money you didn't need to and it sucks having all kinds of stuff laying around that you only used for a month.

Hot dam! BonggrippinBob is rite I wish I would of learned more before I started, but I got two lovely cloned ladies given to me for free. And being my first time I was overwhelmed, but thanks to Rollitup they and their 11 cloned offspring are doing magnificently. But I now have many useless things sitting round my apartment. And yes you do NEED ventilation, I have 9 computer fans in my 2 cabs(7 in flower and 2 in veg). Anywho good luck with your mission and learn all you can for knowledge is power.

Do you need a switchable ballast or could ya save money by just grabbing magnetic hps 600w ballasts? If it's just going to be a flowering room there really isn't a need for a switchable but maybe you have other intentions.

Why would he buy magnetic ballasts? They are outdated and pointless. You get a digital and it runs both mh and hps bulbs no conversions or switches it detects what you have in and runs the correct one. On a $1200 budget your good can do 50 plants if you want easy. Here is a link to a simple tent setup which would be great for what your doing and would take up only a 4x8 area. look at my link as I showed a simple under $1000 tent setup with 2 600 watt digital lights, cool tubes, fans, tables, pumps, co2 injection. https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/71902-grow-tent-4x8-table-style.html
