1000 watt light

How many plants should I be able to grow under 1 1000 watt light?

i guess a 1000 watt light is supposedly the right amount for a 4x4 area so whatever you could fit in that area i guess would be the effectiveness of the

it really depends how you're going to grow them.
anywhere from 1 to say 100 plants.
like trying said its about a 4x4 spread.

you could get away with a maximum of 8x8, pending on how big you were planning on growing them. 6x6 as primary light source, and even more potentially as secondary light, you want them spaced out for proper light distribution

i have successfully used 1000w HPS bulbs to light up a 6' by 6' area each.

you could get decent results with 36 plants in 3 gallon buckets under a stationary HPS.
like ResidentKush said... you can maybe stretch it a little by having multiple bulbs. and don't forget a reflective surface right next to the outer perimeter.

here's the oft repeated maxim:

400w 4' by 4'
600w 5' by 5'
1000w 6' by 6'

A 1,000 watt hps light will cover a 6x6 area nicely,a little more if you rotate daily & possibly add some cheap cfl side lighting,going any larger than 6x6 can allow stretching,depending on the style of plants grown,single cola plants fair better than full plants if the area is to be expanded past 6x6.

i wonder how much area you could effectively cover using a light rail...

6' by 8' ?

most people say its not worth going the full distance on the lightrail but going about 2 feet back and forth for better light distrabution cause going the full distance will leave the ends with less light. I forget the name but theres these batwing reflectors you can get that adjust so you can get a bigger area under the light

that makes sense. the key is "effectively" and that's what it's all about. i've thought about the rail myself, but never bit the bullet and purchased it. if it really only gives another 2', i'm glad i didn't buy one.

well the rail will allow you to go 6 feet but youll be sacrificing light for the end plants i seen a thread on here somewhere on here where he rigged a couple sticks or poles to his light and when his fan turned it moved the light kool little idea

if plants were rotated would it be beneficial?

I'm sure it would be but still wouldnt go the full 6 dont they come in 4 feet also?

I run both 4ft movers as well as 6ft movers,if you go past 20% increased area your asking for stretched plants.

An extra 20% area is no small pickens though,extra plants turns into more yeild,an investment of $100 will pay for itself several times over the very first grow ,plus some.
