1000mh or 400hps?

I've been using a 400 hps for flowering but was recently offered a 1000mh for a really good price so I bought it. Will the mh be better since its so much more light even tho its not really the right spectum? What kind of results can I expect using a mh to flower instead of a hps?

I would use the 1000 watt for veg and the 400 for flowering....you would get best results that way.....hps has a few different colors of spec but one of the colors that is essential for flower growth is the red spectrum which MH lacks. Now the 1000 watt will be able to cover more of a surface area wile the 400 would only do about a third of the same surface area, so plan to have your light space cut dramatically. Also don't put a bunch of plants so that when you transfer over to the 400 watt you wont have a light coverage problem. Hope that helps a little!

Should I just use the 400 for supplemental lighting? What about those dual spectrum bulbs? Could I get one in 1000w and make it work?

Short answer : Yes.

It is SunMaster.... (1000w MH Sunmaster (warm) bulb BT-37)... The bulb will give a "warm" light spectrum mimicking the light produced off the HPS bulbs.. So it is a Metal Halide Bulb for flowering, but they do not claim for it to be better than the High Pressure Sodium.. but if you are asking if I would go with a 400W HPS or a 1000W Warm MH bulb... I would go with the 1000w... Then budget for a 1000W HPS ballast... obviously the best choice, but do it in stages.. I was using a 400W warm MH bulb for a few grows before I moved to a 1000W... worked well..

It was listed for $105 when I searched for it on google... u may find a better price somewhere else?

Ok cool cause I don't have the money for a new ballast and bulb right now but I could afford just a bulb. But the local hydro shop wants $199 for a conversion bulb. That's more than I paid for the whole mh setup lol. Fuck that. If I can find a "warm" mh bulb I will go with that til I can afford the new ballast.
