1000w cfl vs hps

1000w of cfl compared to Hps
having started a purely cfl grow, i am now at the stage flowering. curently and through the veg i have used 500w of cfl ( 2x enviogrow 250w 6400k bulbs in powerplant reflectors) during veg this has worked well. far better if i do say so myself than people i know using purely hps lighting for veg . but as i understand this success is going to be shortlived in the flowering stage. i really would like to do well with this and stick purely to cfls (although the draw to hps for flowering is stong) so have now went 12/12 with 2x 2700k cfls.

noticed though that there are 4 bulb refectors on the market that would give me 1000w of cfl power, i would of course be using 4x 2700k bulbs.

was wondering if anyone could help by providing me with their knowledge, thoughts and opinions. i know from reading theads on here most people are going to say if i am drawing 1000w why not just use hps, but i am committed to the cfl cause.

...600 watt HPS are the most efficiant (lumens per watt) , I'm too baked to explain any deeper...but, 600 watts of HPS gives off more lumens than 600 watts of fluros, hands down.

400w of HPS power would beat 1000w of cfls hands down. if you are totally set on using cfl's then go for it. most people use cfl's to keep the power consumption down so if you are gonna use 1000w you really might aswell save on your bill and go with a 400w HPS

thanks for for your post guys.

info is taken in. and just so it is posted new hood will be powerplant 4 way hood with 4x 2700k evriogrow 250w bulbs or on the advice of some on here of a 3 to 1 ratio 3x 27000k and 1x 6400k 250w with addional lighting for under canopy and side lighting being provided by 3x e/light 20w 2700k and 2x philips 11w 6400k.

but like i said i am committed to cfl growing and was just thowing this comment out as to see the replys and/or science you guys would give.

with this info i hope to continue for the following reasons
1. i am a stubborn and loyal bastard and fell in love with my cfls after their performance during the veg process.
2. cfls are a matter of debate and would like to try for myself as some claims on here are quite ambitoius. but it is a definate that they can be used, if not to a standard comparable with hps.
3. i know a fellow grower using the same method ( pots, nuits, cycle, tent, etc) except 600w hps all way through and he is a hater and says i'm wasting my time flowering. but i beleive with some cheating (1082 total watts rather than 600w), good light usage ie right next plants rather than 1 foot away, and the help and backing of fellow cfl growers i can achieve something impressive. or dispel all ambitions of cfl flowering and for next grow for hps after all.

i done my first grow with cfl's and got 40 grams off two plants which was great and i was very pleased with it and i also follow alot of cfl growers threads and know they can produce great results at one point i had x2 250w enviros and x10 23w cfl's and they loved it so im sure you will do great with over a 1000w!! i too said i was a commited cfl grower but i was just itching to try HID power, i still use x3 45w 6400k's for vegging but for flowering i will always use HPS now.

im not one of those people that try and convert cfl growers to turn to HPS lol but me being me i want the best results i can get for as little $$$$$$$$.

anyway the 1000w sounds great and i would like to follow so when you get it under way let me know

:peace:

1082 is the true wattages of the bulbs not sure the equivilent values would be apart from the 11w bulbs claim to be 75w and the 20w claim 100w, but have no idea what the 250w bulbs would weigh in at.

Did you get a harvest from the CFLs? I'm about to do a similar grow (about 500 actual watts) and was wondering if CFLs could perform as well as HIDs.
