1000w m/h homemade switchable ballast

:blsmoke:my partner gave me a 1000watt mh magnetic ballast......will mh ballast fire up hps bulbs without damaging the ballast itself.......and how could i wire a toggle into the ballast to make it run on or the other come on guys i know some one has made there own switchable ballast:blsmoke:

It wont run a hps bulb without a refit.
I dont know how or even if you can make them switchable.
There is a guy who does great stuff with electrical setups here but i cant remember what hes called.
He may be able to help you out.
I will try to find his posts so you can have a look and send him a pm.:blsmoke:

to make that into a hps ballast all you gotta do is wire in an ignotor. i dont know how they make them switchable. maybe a toggle switch that bypasses the ignitor or something im sure.

yeah watch out dude.... get your info's correct.... I blew 1 bulb once.. with a setup thats basicly like lego to put together.... but then again it blew the shit out of it and it scared me :D

probablly had oils from your hand or moisture on the bulb if the thing exploded. thats all ive ever heard of making bulbs explode....
but yeah hang on i think i still have some info on the subject.....you can thank kp for it later.

the link teaches all about wiring them up. you can get cheap parts all around the web. if you have any problems pm me but i doubt that you will, its more of the matter of finding the right price for ya. lol
im thinking that you may e able to wire a toggle switch in that could by pass the ignitor when left one way and alloqw current to go through it and out if you leave the switch the other way......
if we dont have someone in here that knows before this evening ill make a request for someone to stop by and give you input on the matter.

thanks guys just so you know i have been doing construction residential for 8 years and some minor comercial electrical......all i need to know is the name of the parts i need ima hit moogie up.......thanks nat dwr ko.......and just to clear the air nat i have a 16 year old daughter.....im not 20! wish i could say i was
