Hey so I have an extra room in my house and want to gro in it. The room itself is to big to gro in so I'm gona build a second room within the big one. I'm just wondering what's the smallest space that u can put a 1000 watter in? Any one else done this or any thing similar? This is my first "serious" gro. I'm not a total newb, but any advice or tips will be appreciated. Thanx in advance for any help! XD

If you have solid exhaust, fresh intake, and air exchange you could put it in a very small room. Are you using aircooled hoods or tubes? How big is the shield and how big of a room were you thinking? These questions could really help with your inquirey

Just using a normal 1000w hanging vertically w a round hood. I think it's 3 or 4 ft in diameter. I'm planing on using a 6" inline blower mounted just to the outside of the gro room w carbon filter coming off the end. So any exhaust will b filtered. For intake am thinking 2 6" holes near the bottom. I will cover those w a hepa air filter or poly fill. Just some thing to keep the fresh air coming in clean. The inside will b painted flat white and the carpet gets covered w plastic. So that's my basic design. I think I'm goin to make it 6x6. I'll probly do 4 to 6 plants. They will be in dirt, with nothing but organics. Probly 2 gallon pots. If there's any thing else ya wana kno just ask....

The room is NEVER TOO BIG to grow in. You underestimate the vigor of the marijuana plant.

If your lights aren't air cooled, you may fight high temps. Even with an exhaust fan, the lights radiate a lot of heat locally that you need to immediately extract from the room. If you don't air cool it, at minimum put a few high powered fans facing upwards at it. I use 2 Honeywell tabletop air circulators, for $15ea at target you can't argue how much air these things can throw.

I believe your talking about a parabolic hood. We always called them UFOs until those silly LEDs came out. I think you can use your space with your light but you will need to move air! Good call on filtering intake air but you may need to increase the volume of intake and not just use holes unless you live somewhere very cold. 1000watt lights put off heat and ladies needs fresh air. Besides that it sounds like you got a good plan goin. Keep us updated would love to see your progress

Ya! Ufo's. That's what we all called em before those LEDs too! Haha thought we were the only ones...but ya I've always filtered I take air even when it's just from inside the house already. I figured I'm gona try two more holes on both walls near the bottom, and there's some little fans that I will mount in each one. So I think that will help alot. And where I live it is around 60-70° at summer time. Winter is about 8 months and freakin fridgid so that'll help too. On a mother note anyone ever use the MH/HPS bulb? It's suposta b the two lights combined into 1. So u use for veg and flower. I was wondering if anyone had personal experience w them? I've looked everywhere on the web and everything says they're really great! to just ok and I wouldn't use again. Any insight would b helpful. I'm thinking of getting one of those instead of the two separate ones.

Hmm I'm not familiar with one bulb that is both mh/hps...but i know of ballasts that can handle either an mh or hps bulb.

i had this issue with 1 1000 watt halide, the air between the light and plant in a locked room was up to 90 degrees( strangely plants still thrived), and the air near the ceiling was a few degrees cooler, weird..so i cracked the door and turned on a regualr box fan on high over the plants, now i manage my air around 82-83 degrees, but my humidity is SUPER low after using the halide, went from 62% to 39-44% relative humidity...trying to find ways to increase humidity without buying something over the counter. for now, i use 2 5gallon buckets open with purified water, to fill the air with moisture...still having isues, but itll work out.

the bulbs that you arent familiar with are called " dual arc" bulbs. the ballasts are called " switchable ballasts"..and they are the most cost effective way to light a room instead of buying 2 different types of ballasts.

If you want a room for 1 x 1000w then I would go about 8x8 minimum and depending on what hood you use but I would get something focused like a HydroFarm Radiant.
You could even go 8 x 16 if you have a light mover.
Question is how are you going to keep it cool?
Dehumidifier?
Sealed or exhausted room?
A/C ?

Well it's been a little bit but I'm done. 5x5 7 is my room. Exhausted w a 4" inline at the top of the room w 4, 3" holes near the bottom. I will have four plants in 5 gallon pots and am hoping to get close to two lbs! I plan to veg them for about two months after they root under 1000w mh. Then switch to hps and 12/12. Sory for no pix I'm posting from my iPhone. Laptop has a virus so I'm down to this...

Hey chronicsen Im thinking of doing something quite similar but Im only renting an apartment(main floor+basement of house). havent made any purchases yet other than my seeds and some reading material so as far as room setup goes im ready to adopt any idea that I think is best. Ive been thinking a 400 MH and a 600 HPS BUT
because im renting im super paranoid of having my landlord walk right into my place and find my grow and be super pissed call the cops who knows what... im thinking worste case scenario type stuff. So originally I wanted to have a 6x6 room made of 2x4 and drywall down in the basement... but how does a landlord not notice a big drywall box in his previously unfinished basement.... so now im thinking use the closet... but its a shamefully small closet! its 2'x3' ahhhh Im even thinking put a shitty old used fridge down in the basement that poses as an innocent beer fridge and have some crazy super compact grow happening in there...

so your renting and going for a 5x5 box in a bedroom... what about your landlord? if he/she sees the big box do you just say yea I grow my jelapeno peppers in there? what do you say? whats your plans with that?

I dont know what im trying to ask really guess im just trying to vent the frustration of facing the fact that realistically I should probably not attempt growing anywhere other than in my tiny closet :(

Im trying to come up with an idea so I can create a big enough space for 1000 watts And not get fucked over by a curious landlord

how does everyone else do it?

Build a false wall some where that's not noticeable. Then have a secret door somewhere inconspicuously into the room. Google secret rooms to get some ideas and incorporat it into ur apartment. it's really not that hard if u put ur mind to it.

Fortunately my land lord is chill. No reason for him to come in. If he does come in there's no reason to go into that extra bedroom. If he does go in there it's very obvious...but I have planned ahead for such occurrences. and in my state it's legal! So... the room I built is made of 2x4's n drywall with r 13 insulation. It's almost free standing except for 4 screws into the ceiling joists and 4 into the floor, and it's built to the 1/8 inch so it fits really tight. It can be disassembled in 15 mins easy! It comes apart in 3 pieces and there will be no evidence of a room thats ever been built.

If u do decide to gro just remember KISS ( Keep It Simple Stupid) :p and remember loose lips sink ships. IMO most operations that end up in disaster are brought about by the grower them selfs...wether its gettin busted or loosin ur crop due to over fertilization or whatever. I water my shit by hand and feel of the soil. I'm goin dirt and I'm kinda leanin towards the bat guano and mixin my own custom soil, or probly just gettin some good pre made from my local nursery and usin a simple liquid veg and liquid flower ferts for the different stages and then it's all tlc from there. Keepin it all old school!

... just build an extra room and hope they dont notice it haha. my landlord owns the house and he used to live in it so i expect he knows the rooms... but im starting to think also... hes not likely gunna call the cops unless he wants me to not be able to pay rent. I dont expect he will come in to my apartment, but for a period of 5 months I cant rule it out.

I was in the same boat. I bought a 4x4 tent. I just have one hole to the outside world. I put a 4" inline fan on it for my intake and I use a 6" exhaust fan connected to my can-66 filter sitting inside the room (not the tent). Works like a charm with an air cooled 1000w light. My temps directly under the light are currnetly around 77, but it's particularly cold out right now. It's usually between 80-86 with the lights on.

I use the rest of the room for an office.

@thedillestpickle-mabey not so much a noticeable box built in ur basement...but what if you found the shortest wall in the basement, say 10'. Build a wall mabey 3 to 4 feet out and throw some drywall up, and match the texture/paint of existing basement, make a small secret door and u have a room to grow. If done properly it won't be noticeable, false walls are easy with a little work! the basement just looses a little square footage. Hopefully the landlord won't notice.

I have a freind who has a 10x4x7 false wall gro room. He was lazy and didn't want to hide the crappy door he made so he stacked a bunch of boxes from storage and made a wall o boxes in front so it looks like boxes 6 feet deep. He just moves a select row of boxes out of the way and opens the ghetto ass door and it's into the hidden room.

I almost bought a tent. but for the price of materials I built 3 walls...it was way cheeper! Plus I have a hard structure, not the floppy tent walls and PVC frame. Not knockin tents just my preference I guess :) i have built and assembled it to be just as portable as a tent. I think more people should go this way... Much more solid imo
