those CFL's that put out 1.6k lumens are 23 ACTUAL Watts, they are said to be 100w equivalent to incandecent light bulbs. Basically the rule of thumb with CFL's is 100W for each plant on vegetative state & 150W per plants for flowering phase. This all depends on the size of the plants. You won't get the same light penetration as your HPS and by this reason you have to keep those CFL's as close as possible. In conclusion, 12 23WATTS CFL's producing 1.6k lumens will be enough for up to two plants (maybe 3) on full flowering mode. hope this helps bro.

thx buddy i got confuse with all the wattage, well i was hoping to grow aroung ten plants at the time with cfls so Ill go get me some more

as md said.... the hps gives penetration but to answer your question; yes, a nice amount of cfls will get you through the whole cycle of a plant... must keep bulbs close and watch out for leaves getting burnt

honestly dude, if you are flowering another 9 plants you'd probably be happier buying another 1000w HPS, or at least a 600 watter.... CFL's just don't produce enough light to economically grow that many plants.

you'd have to have like 12 bulbs PER PLANT. placed ALL AROUND it, top, bottom, sides, as close as possible.... you'll have wires and light fixtures EVERYWHERE in your grow room. If I were you I'd save the headache and just grab another HPS

Like ii dP ii says, you would need significantly more bulbs to flower 9 plants.

Once you get anywhere near 400 watts (actual) of CFLs, it is much more economically viable to invest in HPS, and you won't have to mess around with positioning every bulb to within an inch of each bud site.

Sounds like a lack of planning on cycling flowering plants. OP did you get too many seedlings or clones? I only grow what I can handle with my lighting and space. As dp said for that many plants getting another HPS is a better way to go.
