think about a new grow and i was thinking eather a 150watt sun system or a bunch of cfls? i like the the sun system, because A. its a pro grow light, B. a good light is alway nice to have, C i think my plants and yeild will be alot better

the only three negitives are the cost 75 bucks, the heat, and i cant get hid from local stores

clf's A.cheap, my money is limited B. i've seen some pretty good grow here with them and its a stealth grow, C. they are alot cooler than a hid set up and i can get cfls any where

negitives, i'd have to use alot of them and the power i could be using could be more than a 150, with less yield

so all that said witch one would be best and most cost efftive?

bump bump bump?
I'd say do both. Use your HPS overhead throughout veg and flower along with some blue-spectrum CFLs, they'll provide mixed light for veg and side/bottom lighting for when the plants get bigger.

If you're worried about heat, I'd go all CFL's. The 42w bulbs are great, put out a ton of light, and it can't burn a plant unless its touching the damn thing.

thanks for posting, i could use both but for now my money is limited, i'm leaning with cfls, because if my 150watt bulb goes out i would be super uber fucked:joint::joint: passing the j your way

I use both a 150HPS and 42w CFL's. I use the 150HPS for the tops and then surround the plants with five 42w CFL's and it works good for me. I do two plants at a time. I'm growing in a small closet where my only exhuast/intake is opening the door and even when I keep the door closed for extended periods, like 8+ hours, my temps stay below 82F and usually average 78F. (Especially during the winter)

It may sound odd but I've found the 150HPS alone is cooler than several CFL's. I suspect this is because the HPS is a single heat source while several CFL's provide numerous heat sources around the entire grow room. My temps actually dropped when I got my 150HPS and started using far less CFL's in the process.

Cfl's will deffinatly cost less, Plus you can actually get really good yields with them if used properly. Look in the CFL growing forum ull find a bunch of sweet grows :weed:
