I was just at home depot and they have standard bulb 150 watt hps. Will this work or is it not the right thing. They were about 30 bucks each. I want to get a couple for flowering but don't want to waste the money on the wrong thing.

No it doesnt its standard I believe its called medium. The one that needs that was called mogule or something. It was half the size of the other one

no becuse of the way the bulb is made...the chemicals/metals/gasses that are supposed to be run in a ballast...the bulb needs to be ignited rather than just running current through it.
sodium vapor bulbs run very hot to and thats why they are put in mogul sockets rather than just a normal porcylin or ceramic sockets...the can melt and cause a fire.
i think the normal socket size still needs to be run by a ballast.
sry to burst ur bubble man
peace
