for all you indoor growers i have a question......i live in a rented house that the electric is included in the rent....right now i run the central ac/heat unit constantly...i also leave my computer on all day and a bunch of other little things....if i were to turn the ac unit completely off as well as the computer, change all the bulbs out to cfl, turn down the fridge a little( or is it up? hmmm? ) do you think i'd be able to run 1500Watts 12/12 without being noticed? its only the bill i'm worried about..my landlord lives out of state and does not visit.... i don't know exactly but i assume that the ac unit should be atleast 1000w and the computer another 5-600w and both those run 24/7

The best way to figure it out would be to use the formula used to calculate kwh costs. You can do it by finding out how much your paying per kwh and times it by 12 hrs and calculate the 12 hrs a day, 7 days a week, 4 weeks in a month.

kwh x hrs of light being used

If i were the landlord, i would notice the jump. not trying to discourage you just being realistic.

maybe you could talk to your landlord and tell him that you are starting a project that requires a lot of electricity (a big fish tank, more computers, a dark room/film dryer) something - and work out a deal - saying you'll pay anything over xx amount. that should keep their mouth shut and sate their curiosity.

just a thought anyway...

ok, so the first strain i'm doing indoors is going to be auto hindu kush from lowlife in a 4x4 grow area with a 1000w hps, but i figured with the flouros for seedlings and a fan etc. 1500w would be the total for the grow.. they also recommend a 20/4 cycle but i'm going to do a 18/6.. i looked it up i am right about 0.09kwh and so

((18x7x4)0.09)= $45.36 just for the lamp and an additional $22.68 for extras for a total of $68.04...

which would def get noticed however if i do not use the ac all summer that i would think would even things out or at the very minimum save atleast $50 a month...wrong??

while i was one the energy site i saw this snuggled in thier privacy policy WTF???

We reserve the right to disclose any and all pertinent customer information to law enforcement or other government officials as we, in our sole discretion, believe necessary or appropriate.
like i said all i'm worried about is the overall bill for my landlord none of this will get noticed by the energy company..

another option is just getting a 600w?? do you think that is enough to properly cover a 4x4 space??

tell him your buying a deep freezer or something just make up an exscuse why your using the extra electricity and make sure to pay the amount due on time.

get a digital ballast in a 600W.. that should cut down on elect. cost. it will definitely cover a 4x4 area. then just cut down on your electrical usage!

auto flower strains i like to grow out door for it will enable the grower to acheive two harvests a year without black boxing or spring flowering. however growing indoor i would still follow the traditional 18/6 and 12/12. especially since your not sure it seems if it is an autoflower strain.

if you are worried about the landlord or elec company dont. as long as the bill gets paid elec co dont care. the are in it for profit. your LL being in a different state is to your benefit. chances are he has ALOT of rentals and whatever special circumstances allow you to have paid utiliies i.e. living in an apt behind the main house, means you have shared electric. dont trip homeskillet. 600watts will be fine for flower but if you want the thousie hit it up. 50$ a month extra is hardly noticible, especially in the transition from cold to hot or hot to cold weather. it is also easily explained like the before metioned fish tank.

i didnt read all the replies but you could run your shit like normal and still run 1500 watts of light and not be too noticeable

ya think....i actually have decided not to use the autos and go with a nycd grow... so i'll flower the normal 12/12... it will probably be around $45 bucks more a month for 1500w if that....
