I have been looking into a 400 HPS cool tube setup. only problem is I have put over 2000 in this and no weed yet. Do you think another 450 will pay off? Also take in mind my air system was setup for 4" the cool tubes that I have found are 6" so to do it the right way I have to upgrade my filter and my can fan. grrr. Iam at the point to just see how CFL goes and the next grow get the hps as I have read that is the way to go.
I started my first invetment with $1000 about 3 years ago. I've grown ever since concurrently after the completion of every cycle. I'm already at about 5000 and still not where you are in equipment. This is because I am always buying a new growing system until I find the system that works best for me. I think I've found that said system and it incorporates a high tech passive ebb and flow which I built myself with the assistance of a brilliant person named Krypto from ICMag. He created a post known as the Krypto Ultimate Controller. Nonetheless these are my own personal endevours. I recommend you stay with what you have for the purpose of experience. Grow your bud with the CFL's but grab a few clones before flowering for your next grow and then you can compare for yourself the power of (HPS-) and its DeaMon like effects. But most importantly - DOCUMENT your grow on a piece of paper daily as in temps, pH, TDS levels and moisture. This way you can easily tell if something is about to go wrong later down the road. The best defense is the GREATEST OFFENSE - ALWAYS PREVENT as opposed to treating...

Good Luck and I KNOW YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL!!!

Leave your existing fan for your carbon scrubber and later down the road purchase a 265cfm dayton ($70) with two 6 inch to 4 inch duct reducers for your lights. I always keep 2 - 265's in my tent for this purpose... Just hang them with plastic ties.

What brand of chiller did you pick up and where did you find it? I'm having the same problems but I just can't afford another $300 purchase.

Hey man I feel you, I'm about 3300 deep into my pot investment (1000W HPS with 12 plants) and just started flowering a week ago. Just keep telling yourself it will eventually pay off and find a way to dig a little deeper.

Sometimes getting into a new type of growing just goes this way the first time, but the experience leads to future sucess. I think it was my 4th outdoor grow attemp before I finally had a sucessful harvest with some bag seed. Then with my next two attempts, I wasted two different orders of high dollar seedbank strains due to my mistakes. Finally, my last outdoor grow was a sucess, but it was with bagseed again.

My current indoor grow is my most costly attempt to date and I seem to be on the right track, but I realize that I now have quite a bit of experience from my past grows where I was not always doing things correctly. I know how to grow in soil or soiless mediums now, but I do not think I would do so well with hydo until I had a few hydro grows under my belt.

I guess I am trying to say that if you just keep trying and working on it, you will eventually realize sucess. With RIU, I think the experience and success can now come much faster because of the huge collective wealth of knowledge that it can provide. You are doing the wise thing by seeking advise from a lot of different growers. Perhaps just a heartier strain on your next grow would make a difference.

Day 49

switched out 4 gallons from the 7 gallon with the extra nutes

2:1 ratio GH-Bloom:Micro
3ml SM-90

PH 5.71
PPM 248

Bumped th PPM up yesterday as the plants started to look sick, and this the only thing that is low/wrong (was scared to burn them - and was thinking the ppm was tell me "FEED ME" and that was not the case). The problem looks like a Potassium (K) deficiency from the info that I have read. Will see what happens with the extra nutes.

Root spray mxter I have been using
4-5 drops sm-90
3-5 oz's Zero ppm H2O
Ph'ed 5.6-5.7

Root spray really helped clear up the problem.

note: I had some extra nutes/h2o in a 1gallon bottle that is added to the spray bottle and that is the nute burn you see on teh bottom leaves (did this a few weeks ago). So dont mixed any nutes to spary for the roots, I learned.

Seems to be looking good now, love the white roots . Did you foliar spray your plants at anytime? When using h2o2 and sm-90 you were adding it to the res? What mixture did you use the spray the roots?

Foiliar spray once with sm-90 when the plants got there roots cut. But I dont see a need to now. If you have long roots that are slimry I would just cut them off. the roots make them shoot to the bottom of the bucket looking for air. beside I was not able to cure just control. I time i will learn if it can be cured as there is still a liitle root left that iam fighting off.

Root spray mixture I have been using
4-5 drops sm-90

Day 51

PH 5.75
ppm 343

the pass few days I have been rasing the ppms. I have a new gulde line that iam going to use for ppms and res rules for changing the water.

Still using a 2:1 Bloom:micro

The last problem the plant had was low ppms (I knew this but been a noob to nutes it is all scary) I have to say Earl's post about Hydro 101 is a must read i have read it a few times. It is very indepht on what plants needs and how to give it to them. Well here is the pictures. please feel free to offer some feed back I really want to learn.

oh here is my ppm guide I got it from SMB video. and he said he was playing it safe. My plan is to get within 100 ppms of this guilde line.
Day pH ppm
34 5.6 200
40 5.6 300
50 5.9 400
52 6.0 450
54 6.0 500
57 5.8 800
70 6.0 800

Hey Bro DWC is the easiist way to grow besides the hempybucket. If your rez temps are contained to 67 up to 71 % your cool. To control that is easy dude freeze smal
tuper ware contaianers and drop into res. BUT dont drop right on too roots place it so iit will float in the water roots will react. I always but 2 gallons of purified water from publix in my refrig. on sat. then In gcange my res on Sun and have 2 gall. of nice cold water to go into the other 3 gallon of tap water,

Day 56

PPM 555
pH 5.83
Water temp 65f
Air Temp 68f - 82f avg about 76f for about 70% light.

Iam thinking about flowering on the 31st any reasons I should not?

They are looking very nice I think. I feel that I have control just waiting for the next problem.

Looks good, bushier = better. It may be too soon to trigger anything... I normally wait until 16-18" height... depending on strain, then start LST... sometimes topping. Every day, you should be adding about 10ml of hydrogen peroxide (the 3% strength)... once it releases it's oxygen, it turns into water, also adjusting your pH. So keep an eye on those. Flush every 7-10 days. I use GH nutes, they work well.

Iam going to wait till the plants are 12" tall. I was thinking before a date should only be a guide line.
