1st Grow (Stealth Box)

I recently found 2 bag seeds and decided i should try growing. I see it more as a hobby than a resource for some premium MJ.

So, i found a big cardboard box in my cellar that seems perfect to grow in. With my $100 budget i bought the following things:

2 15W 6500k CFL bulbs
2 26W 2700k CFL bulbs
Schultz Potting soil
Schultz perlite
Stim root
Liquid growth flower bloom (8-16-8)
All purpose fertilizer (20-20-20)
24hr mechanical timer

I started off by germinating the seeds for about 3 days. When the tap root was about 1/4" long i dipped both seeds into stim root and put them into 2 small containers with a potting soil + perlite mix (i washed the perlite.)

I am currently only using 2 CFL's (one 6500k and one 2700k). I have no fans for ventilation but i did cut a hole on the top of the box and on the bottom. I can occasionally open the box and put my big fan on it to air it out.

I was wondering if i should just start off with all 4 bulbs going?

Here are some pictures:

My light fixture, i have 2 of these

your stuff is not gonna grow if you are covering the tops. how is fresh oxygen supposed to get in? your killing them lol

plus, are your additives food safe? I prefer to keep to stuff that is for vegetables as well.

air is the biggest concern for a plant, i read through it again and your litterally giving it nothing lol. i know its your first grow but you need to understand the basics of botany first :P

mmmk, thats a start. hopefully you havn't killed them yet or promoted any sort of rot. keep temps 75-80 when germinating, and 70-75 when they are in vegetative states if you can. generally seeds don't need fertilizer at first either, they prefer just good old nutrient rich soil, something like a jiffy pellet at home depot in the gardening section. costs 12 bucks and is a perfect all in one starter kit for seeds. i'd get rid of what you have in place of that when you get some new seeds :P. fertilizer can affect the way a plant grows in the beggining, and may actually kill it sometimes, so i hope you'll be fine first time out. ask away if you have questions

turn the light off.... you only need light if there are leaves above ground :)
Wow really? I thought it should be on 24hrs straight? or is that for when it just breaks soil? Also does the soil i have contain fertilizers in it like MG? Im not sure if that's what it means by Plant food.

Do you have drain holes in your pots? If not you might need to make a few.

Your soil feeds for six months. .08/.12/.08 It should be fine. Just dont add any nutes untill the plants get a little bigger.

Did you add the pearlite yet? I would add at least 1/3 pearlite. If you want to but an additonal componet for your soil I would buy some coco fiber. If you cant get it where you got your soil look in a pet store. They use it for lizard bedding. Then use 1 part of your soil 1 part coir. It is a personal choice. But I have better luck balancing out to wet and to dry with coco over peat. I grow lots of tropical and desert plants.

Plants that I want to hold more water I use less perlite. Plants I want to keep dry I add more perlite.

You should find a small fan soon too.

I have already washed and added the perlite. One plant is now sprouting above soil and the other is really close. I'm not gonna be home tonight so I took 2 bulbs off to reduce the heat in the box. I was thinking about buying a couple computer fans but I'm just unsure of how to hook those fans up.

So its been a couple days since i planted the seeds and they're just breaking soil now and should be getting some big leaves soon.

I also got a PC fan im now using as an exhaust fan, its working pretty good it makes a big temperature difference in the box. But i have to open the closet to let fresh air in once in awhile.

The new exhaust fan!

Is that how low your lights are going to be? If so I would lower them so there just above the plant.

But thats just me ;)
