This is my first time growing weed, so bear with me. I'm using a ghetto setup of a cardboard freezer food box, and a 13w 120v 2700k cfl. I also have a "Plant Gro N Show" 50w 120v incandescent(?) After doing some reading, apparently the gro n show is no good, so I'm going with the only cfl I have. I plan on buying more some time soon

The soil is just some generic potting soil

I germinated this Citral G13 seed about 3 days ago in a coffee filter, planted when the tail got about half an inch long.
This is where its at now (Aug. 26)

This is my setup. The light is about 7-9 inches away from the plant, if the stem stretches too much I'll replant. I'm usinghalf of a mtndew bottle as a humidity dome. Do I still need the dome? And if so, approximately how long do I need to keep it on?

I plan on forming a better growing area, this is temporary as this is a stealth grow.

Should I use the gro n show, or the cfl for the veg stage?

I'll post new pics in a week or two. Hope this girl thrives :bigjoint:

WELCOME TO RIU.Keep tht cfl about 2-3inches from the plant and remove the dome.Add more with the Daylight blue spectrum for veggin and try and turn em where the coil is on top of the plant. Not the bottom of the CFL.

"turn them where the coil is on top of the plant, not the bottom of the cfl", what exactly do you mean? I've lowered the light so its about 4 inches away from the plant, it's the lowest I can get it with this box. Like I said it's temporary though. You think its a good idea to have no dome? I've met other growers that kept domes on their plants till they were like 5in tall o_O, however I'm sure starving the plants of water just a little might be good for them eh?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'd buy a case if I had the money to spend, I might just tear apart an old computer in my garage :P From what I've read it sounds like a bit of work, will be quite a project.

I'm thinking about converting a tupperware into a little grow room with light mounts and vent holes & fans. Should I pursue this idea, (can add another tupperware on top for more growing room if needed), or the PC grow? I feel the tupperware idea could potentially give a higher yield.
Also, I found a 23w cfl, I have that on the plant now. I also found a few more of these 13w cfl's, should I just add 1/2 on my one plant? Should I wait before doing this?

Thanks for the help guys

Hi Pirax
I've heard that if you give the stem a little squeeze - I said little squeeze it should stop the stretching - get a second opinion on this tho'.
Good luck

Do that and you'll kill the little sucker. She's too small for that. Kudos for the ghetto grow. When you don't have money you make due with what you have. Get the lights as close to the plant as you can without burning them. Put your hand where the light will be above your plant. If it doesn't bother you it will be a fine distance for your plant. My advice to you would be to not over think the process and listen to advice with the proverbial grain of salt. What works for me might not work for you and people spread a lot of BS about growing trying to make it rocket science. Simplicity is the best policy In my opinion.

Use it up, wear it out and make it do. Love rat rods, rat bikes and rat grows. +rep for that even if your cardboard box is a fire hazard. Keep any lights away a few inches and you'll do fine. A bucket of water nearby - in case it catches and in case you happen to be there if it does. In case. Good luck and keep us posted.

I did say little squeeze - not squash, pinch or crush the little blighter - fat fingered Northerner (no offence intended) I've lost seedlings that had been 2 to 3 inches away from a cfl light cos they grew another inch or more in a matter of hours and burnt to death! I can hold a lit cfl bulb and it does not bother me cos I'm thicker than a plant ;)

Try get a little indirect breeze going as that will strengthen em up - if your not up to a little light squeezing.

Or start em low in the pot and top up with soil up to the two baby cotyledon leaves when/if they stretch.

I have two stretchy seedlings on the go at the moment and I just squeezed one of them (cough - with two of my fat northern fingers - cough) I will report with pics if it survives (probably never see or hear from me again if he or she dies tho - lol)

sleestack x skunk#1.jpg I have removed the incubators for pic

ps. dont chuck water over it if it catches fire as you may electrocute yourself.

I seriously doubt the chances of a fire, but I guess it's possible. I've left the light on for 24hours and the box was still cool to the touch. I have a pretty big oscillating fan blowing in the box on low-medium, seems to be working pretty well. I might end up replanting the sprout in one of those red cups (good idea?) to deal with the stretchy stem

Also, would like 2/3 13w cfl's added on the sides with my 23w on top be sufficient for the vegging stage? I know it's 2700k spectrum but it won't fuck up the plant too much will it?
I'm gonna have to refrain from pinching my baby, I'm pretty sure thats abuse :P (jk) I'm not gonna risk it cus I would hate myself if I killed her.

Would it be a good idea to veg for ~1-1 1/2 months then flower till she's ready to harvest?

Update on the squeeze - the squeezed one is still alive and has stopped leggy growth but it appears to have slowed all growth, I've had them both under 24 hour LED lights.
Look at the difference.

29aug (3).jpg Squeezed and repotted (today).

29aug (14).jpg Not squeezed but with a little LST but twice the size.

:. A little squeeze will stop leggy growth but will also slow the whole plants growth.
