So this is my first grow. I will post my first pics from how i started, and then the new ones i took after i took some advice.

Any help and suggestions are appreciated!

The set-up:

1 box - 30" X 30" X 4ft.
1 Bathroom fan
2 small fans
1 100watt NMH bulb/ballast
2 clones (no roots)
1 seedling

How it all started:

A buddy brings me a plant and I had nowhere to put it. It was payday. I ended up buying a bunch of stuff and set most of it up that weekend. It was too late, the plant was dead. Buddy brings me 2 clones that have yet to root. We threw those in the box but so far they look like they are on their way to death. Now I have 2 drooping clones and a seedling that just sprouted in there.

I am having temperature problems as my box is outside in my shed. I took some advice and installed survival blankets. They are sad to reflect 90% of any given heat so hopefully it helps. Ive seen an increase but not much. I may turn my fan off for now to slow down the air circulation. The big bathroom fan not the 2 small ones. I dont need it yet anyways, its there for carbon filtering.

I am willing to take almost any sensible advice to help the growth of my plants. And any advice to help my clones from dying. If they do die however I have 2 more seeds I can germinate.

I am on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. Hopefully this helps anyone understand my climate. For any americans who are not familiar with this area it is near Port Angeles, Washington. Its nearing temperatures of 0 degrees celcius here right now and I am doing anything safe to help warm up my box in my shed. I have even mounted my ballast inside my box.

Now to end the story Ive written I will post some pictures. Thanks for any help, advice, or compliments guys!:weed:

These are my second pics. In this bunch I added the survival blanket to try and warm the box up. I hung the light up. I think it should be closer to the plants but im not positive. If anyone can let me know I will gladly change it. And the seedling has been added to the mix. The seedling is about 2 days cracked, and is under light for the first time. The clones have been in there for nearly 2 weeks and are only looking worse each day. Today I noticed some purple in the stem on one indication that the room is too cold from what I understand. Once again, any help is appreciated!

It's a lack of light they are searching everywhere for it. Move your light closer and add some CFL's if you can.

I would love to add more light believe me. I cant however. there is a lack of power in my 70 year old house. anything else would blow the breaker. Im going to lower the lights tonight so they get more light/heat.

Alright. Took some more advice and got the light closer to the plants. Instead of lowering/raising the light, I made use of some old paint cans, a chunk of mirror, and some left over survival blanket chunks, and turned them into a stand. I managed to get the plants around 11" from the light.

I held my hand under the light and I could get it within 2" without being burned. But like someone said to Im starting off a little further away. I will leave the box for now for a couple days and see if anything gets better.

unless anyone has anymore good suggestions. Still having a slight heat issue though. Anyone know of any other ways to heat up the box safely?

You really are not going to get any result without more light man. Your space is too big for that one light. Your plants will bud but it will be really sad and the whole time they are growing parts will be suffering from low light necrosis. Constantly dying and re-growing. Lame way to live, can you install a breaker box?

ok i went to walmart and i picked up a 45 watt cfl equivilant to a 200 watt lightbulb. says 3000 lumens. hopefully this helps. its the biggest cfl bulb they had. since i have a heat problem i fiured it wouldnt be a bad idea to add a couple aluminum pie cooking dishes. i cut holes in them and put them around the bulbs. the plants are about 5 - 6" from the lights. they come on in half hour so i will go in and take pics and test the heat with my hands.

picture update within the hour.

What temps are you running in your box? I'm located in Chicago...temps here have been between -10 and 20 since I started my grow in December. My grow tent is in the basement. The temps inside the tent range from 58 to 75 and my plants seem to like that just fine. I'll bet with the ballast inside your cabinet you are keeping the space plenty warm.

Get some CFL's and put them 3 inches above your plant. I dont know about putting clones straight into dirt ive always used rockwool and rooting hormone. But yeah you need more light.

im actually having troubles keeping the temp up in my box. its in a shed that has no insulation. im hoping that by adding the CFL the temp will come up closer to 20. the ballast gives off almost no heat at all. the CFL seems to be a bit warmer than the MH. Im going to check the temp in another hour or so to see how it is after having the two lights in there together.

NEW PICS YET AGAIN! I added another CFL.

The box now has:

1 - 100 watt MH
2 - 45 watt CFL's (Equivilant of 2 - 200 watt light bulbs)

The clones bigger leaves are starting to yellow on the tips and curl. are the lights too close now? I read in the grow faq that you should trim half the leaves off on the bigger leaves of a clone that was taken from a plant in flower. these were taken from plants in flower, should i clip the leaves in half?

it said to do it so there is still 5 piece to the leaf but to cut each piece in half? anyone done this before? will it benefit my situation?

Temp problem looks like its going to be fixed since the CFL's were installed.

ONCE AGAIN! any help is appreciated! Ill keep reading the faq's for now.
