2 1/2 week old plant turning yellow, HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Home depot, walmart, kmart....they all have seed starting mix......and they all have only tarce amounts of nutrients , just enough for seedlings to pop out and get a few sets of leaves, and i would also get some poatmoss cups that you can stick rite into a bigger pot cup and all when its time to transplant to a bigger pot that way you dont have to take the chance of hurting roots at all......do it that way with a new seed and you will have no problem......and always start with small pot and work your way to bigger one as the plant grows so your roots have time to fill each pot you use........thats the absolute best advice i or anyone else can give you.....always remember WATER LOGGED SOIL IS A SEEDLINGS ENEMY!!!!!good luck i have to be done with this topic now because i have given you what will work and im not gonna bash my head into walls with you...lol

oh ok i got it.. i was under the assumption that the plant was nitrogen deficient meaning it needed nutrients.. only fed it once with very low nutes because i DIDNT want to overdo it. and i havent been waterlogging the soil either i usually let it dry pretty good before watering. and so if i buy a specific SEEDLING mix, do i need to change the soil again once they arent seedlings anymore? sorry for all the stupid noob soil questions....

what do you mean its so hot?
Where growers talk about "hot" there can be two kinds. The first is temperature "hot" -- and you addressed that by putting your hand at leaf height and seeing if the temperature is warm or way too warm (hot!).

The second "hot" refers to a high level of nutrients in the soil. Soil with a lot of nutrients in it is called "hot" soil. So what the posters are saying is that the soil you were using to grow in inherently has a lot of nutrients in it. It's part of the manufacturer's mix. And because seedlings are very sensitive to additional nutrients, the growing environment is "too hot". You knew not to add nutrients at this stage (kudos!), but the manufacturer had already put too much in the mix.

I'm not a soil grower, so I can't help you with brand names. But I do know you want to plant your seedlings in good soil that isn't packed with nutrients -- some of those mixes have enough nutrients to last a full-grown plant a month or two! I'm sure some people will weigh in with some recommendations.

yeah dude its crazy i thought i was doing everything perfect like i committed to the first grow by buying all the stuff like the mh/hps and what not and i just hate the fact of wasting the expensive seeds if the plant dies:( i thought picking the soil from the store was going to be the easiest part..... -_-

but honestly i just dont want to buy the wrong stuff again......

wow so i just made an insane discovery (well to me it was insane lol) i decided to lift the pot and look at the drainage holes in the bottom and what do i see barely sticking out of one of them? a ROOT!!!!! so i went with my gut feeling on it and hopefully accomplished my first ever transplant haha and when i took it out of the small pot i was right the roots in fact had HIT the bottom! so is this why it looked so small as if it had stopped growing?because the roots had nowhere to go?

alright so let me start off here: I germ all my seeds for about 2-3 days in a wet paper towel and then when the root is a few CM long i plant it a few CM down in 1 of the pots that you see. Also, I am using Scotts Potting mix Hyponex as my medium. I also am using a 400w MH light that is on 18/6 until flowering when i will switch to the HPS. So, this is ultimately my first grow as you can see. My grow location is a closet as you can see. So the plant that is worrying me is the eldest, which is roughly between 2 and 2 1/2 weeks old since germination. I havent given the plants ANY nutes yet. (I have the fox farm trio for when they're ready) but yeah thats pretty much it, and as far as the distance of my 400w MH from the plants, i put my hand over the tallest one (in the middle) and my hand was basically just kinda warm, not too hot or anything. but yeah ive read alot about not freaking out over small problems with seedlings, so the leaves have been around this color for the last few days and growth looks like it has slowed QUITE a bit.. so heres my question......... why the yellow leaves? oh and also it shouldnt be an over watering concern, because for the first few days the plants were in soil i only sprayed the soil making sure i didnt water too much, and now that theyre all planted i started pouring water in just until i got a small runoff, thats IT. Also, to the left of the plants in the pics i have a fan that i can either aim at the plants or at the light for cooling and i also have the exhaust fan in the pic as well. and only water it once the top soil looks pretty dry.. I havent been taking the PH of the soil because i dont have a pen only a little test kit but i assumed for the better part i was doing everything pretty good... so am i doing something wrong?... or did i post this for nothing and im actually a fuckin great marijuana farmer...? lol

FYI.....the strain is AK-48, if you cant tell by the color of the pots... the two closeup pics are of the same plant... all help would be appreciated it.. if i forgot anything lemme know
I haven't read the entire thread yet, but seeing Scotts perked me up, have yet to hear much good about their product line. Then not only Scotts, but WTF is hyponex? Why is there no information about dervied from pertaining to this potting soil? To me this is a big ? mark in my diagnoses not knowing what the medium is composed of.

http://www.scotts.com/smg/goprod/hyponex-potting-soil/prod210004/;jsessionid=CBF54F207EB3B538E23E3F75E44A9AA7

Nonetheless not good but easily correctable. Go get some Black Gold Organic potting soil at your local large grocery / department store. It has the tomater on it.
Remove her ever so gently like a infant and rinse her roots with distilled water to cleanse her. Then place her ever so gently into a pot of the soil mentioned above or like it.

Anywise if your curious as have the tools take some of that distilled water run it through the scotts soil till your get some good run off, capture the latter and test PH with calibrated meter and PPM. This will give us some idea of the nature of the soil your using unless you have link to manufacturer specs.

Again I haven't read through this entire tread just caught the entry and noticed this medium I am not familiar with so wanted to validate what that is first and secure your baby in something I know will hold her over well for the first few weeks until you decide what course you want to complete with.

Anywise hope she comes through. bongsmilie

honestly u guys im thinking that the growth slowed due to the roots getting to the bottom of the pot and needing more space could this be correct?

Still the best the Walmart page offers is this which still leaves it as a big ass ? Interesting 5 stars great reviews on Walmart site, however Scott's site its rated a 3 at best and has poor reviews.

another tip, its great you have an HID however I would suggest for seedlings you move them under 2x 24watt CFLs at 6500K around 1600 lumes each.

This is far more the preferable then what you have now at this stage of being a seedling.
Also you can put these closer to get a check on that stretchy seedling that is thin and lanky.

I'd re-pot it as well burying some of that stem at least half and place them all about 4 to 6 inches under the CFLs. Save that HID for once they develop to three or four nodes branches about 8 to 10 inches in height.

where can i buy this stuff? and i gave 1/4 nutes but the plant just looks like so yellow i feel like its dying:( so is there like no way it can live in this soil im using or something?
Welcome to RIU  and rosies right you need some topsoil mixed with perlite or a seedling starter mix with perlite to start beans, I used MG on my first grow and it burned a few of my babies, but the ones that made it were fucking awesome. You don't need to feed babies until their cotyledons (lil round leaves) are starting to wilt, and the reason your lil ones are turning yellow is the rich Nitrogen in your soil is too hot as was said, water them less is a rule of MG and other hot soils...good luck
