Does anyone have experience with this method? I was wondering if you should start it once you decide yur ready to harvest, or should you try and guess 2 days ahead of time? Any help would be great.

no, not yet. im trying for three days only because all the info on the web is kind of inconclusive on this topic.
apparently it can increase potency, speed up finish, or do nothing at all. regardless im going to try to see for
myself by pulling one plant out and placing it in my closet 3 days before i take the others. i know it wont hurt
the plant as long as you maintain a stable atmosphere in your grow room( dont want your shit to mold rt b4 ).
plus you get to save $ on your power bill. to answer your question, i think cutting it 2 days ahead of time is best,
remember your plant doesnt stop ripening until its completely dry with 0 moisture(think of curing). ill have some
pics up nextweek of some b4 and after comparisons, hope this helps. good luck!

I do it.
Just turn off the lights for 2-3 days. Then cut down. Seems to work. So, it just became a way I do things.bongsmilie Part of my routine.

Sannie leaves his specimens in 48-72 hours of darkness prior harvesting, and i bet other people who know their stuff do too. I find some strains react better than others, sativas don´t put on as much resin as indicas do with light stress just before harvest, in my amateur opinion. I have been outraged by how much more resin indicas put on with light stress, especially on those lower buds that don´t get much light... I wouldn´t go 3 full days of darkness, i think of it as if i were to stay up for 3 days straight it´d fuck me up too much wheareas 2 days is just about bearable. Since both humans and cannabis plants have circadian rythms i feel treating your plants as you´d treat yourself isn´t such a bad idea.

the difference between two and three days means nothing to a plant when your light depriving it the las days b4 harvest.
if there was growers would notice during the drying/curing stage since that stage is best performed in the dark as well. nirvana
seed co leaves some of their strain in the dark upwards of 2 wks.

the heat and light bake the terpenes and thc..leave it in the dark for a few days to let it rebuild those terps and thc. and you get a better smelling more tastey and potent end result IMO

Thanks for the replies and all, but I don't think anyone here has answered my original question do you hit the dark period when your cloudy trichome % is good? Or try and guess 2 days ahead of time?

I wait till I see 5% amber or less. When it's cloudy it can still take quite awhile to go amber..

You put it in the dark when you feel your plant is ready to chop, the idea being amber/cloudy trichs that have finished producing won't degrade from your grow lights and let the trichs that haven't matured yet to do so.... does it work? Well yes, but its not all that noticeable.. dooooo it!

but I thought you wanted to harvest during the morning of the plant for some reason, how would you do that...2 days dark and then flip the lights on while chopping I guess

You do it in the morning because its the beginning of the day period before strong.g sunlight comes, after 12 hr's of dark, same concept as 2 days darkness but not as long..

im finishing up my end of grow in my veg tent, I need the space and I needed to flip as the flowering girls are ready. I obviously have the lights off in the tent, as im doing the 48 hrs of darkness stage. has anyone ever finished up with a mh light for 12/12 instead of darkness. ive read mh and hps light working together produces some nice nugs.

thanks everyone

I was forced to leave my plants in the dark for a whole week. I underestimated how long the trim would take so had to leave them in dark until they were all chopped. I didnt want to stress it that much by putting it back in light after 72 hours dark. But... Progressively each plant that came out got more and more frosty. The strain is bubblegum and totally FIRE. I reccomend lots of dark before chop chop. Cheers m8.
