Cloning can be a pain in the arse. The most common mistake when cloning is keeping the medium too wet resulting in stemrot. Are your stems turning mushy on you? Do you use rockwool?

yeagh a couple rotted and im using some other sort of medium cubes that was reccomended by the hydro store

like a week or 10 days to show...you wanna wait a while after that as well do develope a good root structure!!!

My clones arent doing well at all..im going to try and salvage some but i threw my white berry moms back under the 400 mh upstairs in the closet to try and get some more clones off them this week....any tips or good threads anyone knows of to help me clone better...also whats the best medium to use that i can use in an ebb and flow for flower?.....im using some craptriangle things...they were reccomended but im not diggin them....the clones keep slowly going yellow like over night...some have rooted tho...what do it do?

I gotcha covered man. THis is the best cloning thread on this site IMHO.

Al B Fuct's .....
https://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/15030-batch-clones-rockwool.html
.......without doubt, IF you can get the conditions perfect, as Al teaches, I am sure that this way of cloning is the best, fastest, and least stressfull on your clones. I set up everything as best I could, bought the heat pad, built a box, did it as close to Al's as possible...... Well, luck sure didn't help me at all, as I lost every clone I put in there.......
Loosing them all like that put me back a good 10-12 days so I had to go right back to the way I 've always gotten 95%++. I wanted to be able to clone with the RW because my clones go into the 4"x4" rw blocks and I am causing stress to the unprotected roots when I slice open the rw and get the roots in there.......(if your curious: I then put the cubes on hydroton in "Al sized" pots in flood tables and run a flip flop once a month instead of every two weeks because I have an aero/nft set up that's keeping me busy as well........)

The yellowing your seeing is more than likely due to having roots developing and now needing nute. I do not believe you need to wait 'for the roots to grow out' much at all!<----the more they grow out the more chance of stressing them and breaking the real fine roots. Once that root starts a node on the stem it goes real fast.......and the sooner they can get a mild drink of nute.

Medium........? I dont understand what it is your using....rapid rooter type stuff?? spongy?? rw?? Just keep in mind that whatever you use you dont want it to hold too much water for too long..... there are different methods for each medium(well, some are similar, I guess).

okay.......so how I clone with 95% success.......very cheap??

Simple bubble cloner. Res.,air pump, stone, hose, heater. You can make one of these any size! CHEAP! I did buy a titainium heater($35) and dual outlet pump. Use No nutes(or hormones), keep water at 82-86, make sure you got lots of bubbles and keep the water level to just under the lid. No need to worry about humidity, misting or anything really........ Just dont keep adding cuttings to it after it's been up for a few days as you really need to clean it good between batches....but if any fungus does start early just add a couple Table Spoons of 30% h2o2.

Wow...........sorry for jacking your thread..........:hump: Cuttings can really be a pain in the ass until you find work works for you in your set-up......

Okay..........I 'll shut up..........must be the great MoonFlower I am :weed:smoking.............

And, oh shit, it's................."MERRY CHRISTMAS!!" Best wishes to you and yours!

that looks wicked....and no jacking of the thread lol.....can you ecplain a little more on how i go about making this and how its put together...the roots just go right into the water at all times...wont this cause root rot?.....i appreciate this very much growinman...always a wicked help!!!

Thanks dindy, and I can run down the basics of it pretty easy---as that's the whole idea.... I cant/dont take credit for this method by any means and I am sure there are diy's here at RIU explaining this cloner as well. My guy at the hydro shop here threw mine together in about five minutes a few years ago for me and charged me $50 and a 10 gal RubberMaid tote. The only items I bought from him were the Titainium heater and neoprene collars, and I guess the delux air pump too. I see that now these heaters are like $35?, and the air pump $15? But you dont necessarily need this specific heater as any aquarium heater should work. The neoprene collars are $15 for 50.......and you dont even need these: shit, you can use a fricken 'pool noodle' and slice it up into hundreds of collars for a couple bucks, or even the bottom of Styrofoam cups-----for that matter you could literally drill holes in the lid of your container and just drop your cuts in the holes(but you'd have to yank them out the second you see roots popping so you dont damage them taking them out of the hole....).

Totally assuming you understand how to take cuttings, being steril, etc....
The stem goes straight in the water, and yes it stays there. If you didn't have the air bubbling on the stems they would rot, yes. This is why I prefer getting the long air stones(thinking about 12") and hooking them to a dual-outlet pump(not split-line) and setting in the bottom running length-wise(pre-soak the stones for 12hrs if you can). My tote is 10gal. This creates plenty of bubble roll and and keeps o2 available to the stems, and also keeps the water agitated.

The only real work involved in building your own bubbler is cutting the holes in the lid:o. If you cant figure that one out you wouldn't be here in the first place. Size is not important(unless you move up a step and do it aero--see StinkBud for awesome diy) as you just need to be able to check your stems for roots and remove them without hurting them or breaking the fragile roots(and they are quite fragile because they have had no abuse or any reason to toughen up). They do pretty much need some sort of collar to hold them in position. I use one of the holes(the most conveinent at the time) to run my heater cord and air lines through. I use fresh(new) air line each run(stone too) but I guess it's not totally necessary. The air stone need to rest in there(no glues or caulks).

NO NUTES!! This will only create unnecessary problems, like fungus, rot, slime..............and the plant cant/wont use them until you see roots, and then the plant will let you know by starting to yellow as it uses up the available nutes already in the leafs/stems. Hopefully at this point your already ready to move them to the next step in your grow.

Problems I've had in 4 yrs of using this system??? Mainly the same thing as everything else...trying to rush it, make it better/faster. It's going to take from 6-14 days for roots, period. Unless your revegging something(21+days!) I wouldn't keep anything that doesn't root after 10 days unless that strain always takes that long. If I have one cut that shows root at 6 days and another similar cut that takes 12 days to root it's going to take a lot of extra work to have them come out of veg stage looking the same for an SOG, for example...... So, it is what it is.

Other than from thinking I could make it more simple and screwing a run up, the only other problem I 've experienced was not having the water warm enough. You'd rott the roots right off a healthy plant putting them in 80degree water, not to mention cooking the nute solution into a slimey fungus mess! But you'll wait a long time trying to get roots on a cutting under 80 and it's actually preferable at 85(thinking mine is at 87 right now).
I 've never found it necessary to use any type of dome. I do mist maybe a couple of times the first couple of days but haven't always and haven't noticed a difference either way. I think my RH is around 65% in there.
Another problem I just thought of........ I was getting into a habit of adding cuttings when I saw one I wanted, etc., etc., to the point of where I was running groups of 10 instead of 50. The whole thing is that you need to do groups----run a group(5-50??), get them out and clean everything with a mild bleach solution and let dry. If you do this you dont need to worry about H2O2, which is only an emergency time buyer(and only sometimes).
Another thing of note: PH........ I grew in soil for years so really didn't even understand pH. I was rooting clones in 6.7 - 7.4 with no problems ever...... In 'hydro' we want 5.8. The last time I check the pH of my cloner water I know it was 6.9 as that's what my water comes in at as is. I 've never adjusted the pH in there and cant really see the importance of it being a solid 5.5-6.0 as the roots aren't even asimilating anything yet. So I use h2o straight from the tap, chlorine and all..............haha :o:hump:

In that last pic the cut I am holding has one root----------just what I want......I can get that to whatever medium I want with very minimal stress/shock and the roots just take off. The homely ones on the right in the last pic were tops of some sexed-seedlings I had to reveg.......

Let me know if I forgot anything.........:weed:

absolutely wonderful....so i would remove the plants when they have just started to9 root or can they veg a bit in there and develop some sort of a root system?....that was wicked tho bro....i appreciate the help...im going to try this this weekend maybe...im going to be cuttin again in a week or so...just waiting for the mums to bush out

...........this was two weeks(16 days) on some MoonFlower clones......they root for me in 4-5 days.......

The second one is SS and never as prolific of a rooter......

So sure......you can veg in there for awhile but remember there are no nutes so they will yellow until they die.....if you were to put nute in there at this point your just basically doing dwc, but a mess of root and way too close together----you dont want the roots getting tangled too bad. If you noticed in that 3rd pic of the 1st set of pics I put on here, I do sometimes move up to 3" net pots with hydroton and veg them for a week or so before I put them in an AeroFlo.....
IMHO, if your going into any medium(unless TAG), your better off in the long run to let the roots grow into the medium asap as there is less stress/damage...... again, imho.......

alright wicked...so im going to use this method until i get them rooted and maybe a few extra days and than im going to veg them under 1000w hps for like a week on 18/6 and than throw them into flower...does this sound like a good idea???....also do you use any root gel or anything...i thought umentioned you didnt but wasnt sure...and usually how far into the water do i want the bottom of the stem to be?.....would any hydro store have those sponge things you were using...i think a pool noodle would be too fat around but thats a wicked good idea...THANKS ALOT!!!.....keep subscribed to my journal and ill have this made as soon as i can!!!

Also growin man do you have any experience or do you currently use co2...because im going to be getting a tank and regulator soon and i had a few questions!!!

......sounds like you have a cool plan to go with.......I use no nutes or hormones at all. A lot of people will say to use a mild solution of this or that, or vitamins like superthrive.......and it must work for them. I am just saying that from my experience none of that is necessary.....in fact I've had my solution go bad sooner by adding nute---someone had told me to use some Tiger Bloom on a batch that was going bad on me. It was no help for the problem I had......possibly might have helped had I done it sooner.....and the problem ended up being water too cool @ 75.......

No, I do not have co2 experience. I do believe that it can be a great help(once you have everything else dialed in good) in the right enviornment. I do run a sealed room and co2 is something I 'd like to play with down the road. I 'd like everything running as close to perfect as possible before I go that route, and right at this point I really can only call what I do as consistantly consistant, BUT, I still have a lot to learn as I have made the switch to hydro.......

Oh, and you just need a node or two in the water(about the same for any method), but I 've had them in there pretty deep and it still worked fine. I 'd try to keep at least an inch in there as you will notice the water level drop a bit......

Lots of bubbles + 85degree water= roots
